The Bad

Hess has still not figured out how to be a starter
Marceaux is, in fact, human
We are very bad at situational hitting
Sadly, Brandt has not been the same since injury and just isn’t swinging the bat well at all
Mathis still can’t throw anybody out
Our pitchers are too afraid to pitch to contact
Dugas getting injured has put us in a massive hole
Garza, Beloso, and Broussard need to work on pitch selection

The Good

Chris Reid is a viable option at third base
Hilliard looked very good
Walker looked very good
Henry looked very good
Watson has been lights out in the 2 hole
Pitching seems like it has all the right pieces, just need to put it together

And finally... something we can use in the future

When a pitch comes close to hitting us, simply turn towards the ump and tell him you got hit and ask politely to go to first base. Apparently that works and could really help us in the future

Just need to call a spade a spade, Hess is not a starter.

It's the gift that keeps on giving. We dont have a dedicated, experienced hitting coach, so oh well.

He also needs to figure out how to put both feet on the rubber so he doesn't get anymore balks. I know it's a new rule and that 3rd base ump was looking for it, but still.

LSU Grad...We live outside of Austin. I root for both schools, I even root for Tulane. Why? Is my loyalty to LSU a litmus test to post? If so, you need a life.

The freshmen looked like freshmen. The veterans for the most part slumped at the plate.
Excited for hilliard , walker, and henry.

You missed the biggest part about what we learned from this weekend. LSU Baseball is clearly not the number 1 team in the nation at this point in the season. We have a ways to go but I do agree with you about the pitching being afraid to throw contact pitches. That’s on PM and Dunn.

Maneiri sold us a bill of goods.

Hess - was the most dominant pitcher on the USA team last summer. He really has turned the corner and has remained dominant during fall ball. He is more than ready to be our Friday night ace.

Broussard and Hughes - been one of our most consistent hitters during fall ball and practices leading up to this season, We will really be pleased to see the progress they have made. We will be tough from top to bottom in our lineup.

Pretty weak starting pitching. Slightly better bats. Defense not very good.

And then what? He can’t put a clean inning together so now we want him coming in with runners in or in a save situation?

Of course he was. He was only asked to pitch 3 innings per outing.

I agree with letting him start the season in the starting role. I agree with giving him one more start. But if it’s more of the same it’s time to start stretching other guys out

Except that a coach with a functioning brain cell would ask for a review.

Hess really pitched pretty well,he’s always going to have a few walks. Easily his best outing. Our lack of production n at the bottom of the order to me is biggest thing.

He left way too early. Sure he only gave up 3 runs. But you can’t have your Friday night guy get up in pitches like that
