The last couple of months on this board has shown otherwise. Good to see.

Wade revitalized it. And now it’s dying again.

Just because every a-hole with a TD account decides to chime in on LSU basketball doesn't mean they give a shite.

Easily the court naming brought everyone out of the woodwork to state their opinion.

I know you're a Dale guy and I stated before I am conflicted on my thoughts regarding Dale in totality.

That said, we're staring into the abyss.

I think Dale maybe stayed in it a little too long. I know he really wanted that Randy/Ronnie group because Caesar was still here for 2 of those years, Brandon was still here and you can’t blame him for feeling cheated by missing out on that group. Problem is he didn’t realize he was past it right away and the end was bad but that happens. Brown wasn’t an elite in game coach but you have to give him that he wasn’t afraid to adjust and try innovative things and he coached in an era with far superior coaches than we have right now. Brown would run circles around this jackleg we’ve got right now.

So the powers that be ran off a Final 4 coach, then we get Trent Johnson, the we hire a homemade guy in JJ, then you bring in a guy who gets things going only to get caught doing what everybody else does and run him off right before what he was doing is now legal…and now we pooping the bed again…this is schizophrenic !

They didn’t want to have to pay for what Wade wanted. His salary was approaching the SECs top tier, the facilities and upgrades he was promised were not happening and recruiting nationally was becoming expensive. They fired Wade because they’re cheap period.

When it comes to fandom, LSU Men’s Basketball is securely behind:

LSU Football
LSU Baseball
LSU Gymnastics
LSU Women’s Basketball

I think Randy's injury and re-injury was the undoing for Dale as HC.

This is one of my against the grain takes. Dale himself said he wasn't the best floor coach - ie drawing up plays, but he was still damn competitive in a stacked era. Bobby Knight gets to throw chairs and slam phones, and that's good basketball. Maybe choke a player or two, for the funs.

Like the fascination at staring at a car crash, it's common for people to be morbidly curious about tragic events.

I’ve been on this board for over 10 years and this is the most I’ve ever seen them care about basketball

What I saw from the 1989-90 teams all the way through Shaqs last year was that Dale could never settle on an identity. He made so many lineup changes, especially at guard, those teams never gelled properly. I guess he knew how special the talent was and he let the pressure get to him instead of having a vision and letting it happen

This is the only correct answer. Programs dead again, back to JJ days, or worse.

I think the issue with the 89-90 team is that CJ/Mahmoud already established himself as an electric player in 88.

Shaq was barely getting into his frame. That dude was super tall already 7'1" (of course), but lean AF. If they had two more years together, I think we're Final Four minimum, even with stacked competition.

The issue was once Shaq actually was actually his best, the refs took it away.

It was time for Brady to go. He had good runs, but never had consistent success.

Wade was the first coach to take us to more than 2 consecutive tournaments since Dale.

That being said, a certain segment of our basketball “influencers” demanded the hiring meet certain criteria that limited the pool.

He had some lean recruiting years also. One or two blue chips with a throw together crew. He was full of himself and thought he could win with any roster.

I don’t disagree overall. 81/86/87. I kinda grew up through those years. And they were highmarks.
