1. Starting O linemen out. I saw at least 3 plays where Turner turned would-be 1st downs into sacks or negative plays. 2 came at critical times.

2. Special teams. Gave them 17 points.

3. Play calling. Denbrock needs to purge the playbook of any TE pre-snap motion. It gains us nothing and doesn’t confuse the defense. Also quit running wheel routes and outside routes with a freshman TE who has the drops.

4. Daniels. At times he has great reads but he’s too slow to throw, and at times he’s good. Just too inconsistent.

Or, to simplify it:

Offense, defense, special teams and coaching

5. Get SEC caliber players.

I can’t blame defense in this game. They were bound to wear down at some point.

I know Kelly and Denbrock love to use the tight end but Taylor just isn't good enough for all of that right now.

If I were to add a 5th, it would be frickING PLAY HAROLD PERKINS. That alone probably would’ve resulted in 7-10 points less for TN.

Perkins is like TM7 was in his first year.

Saban with Belicheck could coach this team and it would not have changed the outcome.

This is not complicated. We just don’t have the talent. It’s going to take a couple of years to get the talent up to LSU standards.

You are correct in that we don’t have the talent across all positions, but the bigger issue is not taking advantage of the talent you have.

Why do you target freshman Taylor 11 times in this game when you have our receivers?

Why was Penn in the game at LB stinking it up and missing tackles when you have Harold Perkins, who has proven to be one of your best 3 players on the team?

Good post.

Our roster has issues but so does everyone else including Tenn. They're just playing their hand better than we are.

I tell you what could well have changed the outcome, roll with MB at QB and our WR corps. Total mismatch for every D in CFB-dom.

Honestly that’s what is so frustrating to me. I don’t expect some miracle season, but I do expect competency and playing to the strengths we do have.

Hopefully the UF game shows us some of that.

Not much can be done this season, but yall forgetting about Mac Markway coming in next season. (6-4 250)

Taylor, with one year of seasoning and MM, hopefully will be catching a lot of passes from Howard in 2023.......

You are going to be screaming talent for 3 years aren’t you! Let me guess too, it’s all O’s fault. Lol

Wear down? Bro, they were missing tackles from the get go. Tenn rammed it down their throats on the opening drive of the second half, when they should have been rested.

The defense may have been the least bad unit on the field Saturday, but to say that they don’t shoulder any blame is asinine.

1. When your QB has more rushing attempts than your next two running backs combined you won't win many SEC games.

2. When your running backs avg. 2 yards per carry against SEC schools you won't win many SEC games.

3. When 98% of your pass completions are to receivers who are stopped and looking at the QB or running more or less parallel to the line of scrimmage you won't win many SEC games. I seem to remember very few completions to receivers running down hill as they say.

Would love to hear Kelly’s answer for this

I'll go to my grave thinking this - We have zero games where Jayden has looked like a winning SEC calibre qb. Passes are rare and seldom on target - wide open wr's are ignored - refuses to let go of the ball.

We have a few misplays by the combination of Brennan, Nussmeier, Johnson that are harped on constantly over a large body of work, but they did show promise. Daniels has not shown any capability for that at all - in five games he has less than a half-dozen acceptable passes, and twice that many dead-head screwups.

I think Taylor is meant to be a safety valve for JD and he just uses him more than he should. Thats why BK yells so much at JD. Clearly the coaching doesn't feel he's pushing the ball downfield as much as he should. Another issue is how often Taylor has drops.

My only real concerns are QB and Special Teams.

TE in motion is to help Offense (esp QB) see what D is doing. I agree with you on focusing on freshman TE. I would say use 80 more but he is prone to drops too. All receivers need to work on concentration and that 10,000 catches drill

I only saw one killer factor - we weren't as good as the Vols....
