I agree with what you said, time for us to win that game. That said, this is the part I don't understand about many people's view on that game around here on the rant. They say it's ok to lose that game as long as we're competitive. That's such a weak minded way to look at things.

3 'acceptable'? No.

3 'tolerable' for the entire season? Maybe. If it results in another NY6 win, and Top-10 AP finish.

Defense isn't the issue. We held them to 29 points, which was ~45% lower than their season average at that time.

Defense was part of the issue, mainly line play on running downs. LSU actually held Bama to the exact same yardage passing as Clemson (25/42 - 295 2TD/1int - LSU, 22/34 - 295 2TD/2int - Clem). Rushing, however, looked horrible for LSU. Some of that could be due to the score but this was a 10 point game until a 1 minute left in the first half and Alabama had the exact same number of carries in each game, 37. 281 yards vs LSU, 148 vs Clemson. Almost double against LSU.

On the other side of the ball, Bama had 0 sacks against Clemson and 5 against LSU. LSU had 1 and Clemson had 2. Not a huge disparity. I’d would be interested in pressures and hurries, don’t have this stats right now.

Better line play, on both sides of the ball, but especially offens, and we have a chance.

With the resources we have, and being the only school in a top 5 hs fb state (and our proximity to texas), there is NEVER a year where we have 3 acceptable losses on our schedule. If you ever see/ hear him interviewed about it, Jimmy Johnson has said this numerous times.

Clemson put the blueprint out there....... I trust Aranda to replicate that.

Clemson's D was way better than LSU's D. Sorry to break it to you.

Texas, MAYBE. But there’s no way there are 3 acceptable losses. 10-2 is the absolute floor.
AU, UF, And Aggie are all better. State will be good.

Your whole floor premise is terrible

There is no such thing as an "acceptable loss". You play to win the game.

Aggy might be a little better (but their record won't show it). I see no reason why Auburn or Florida will be better.

This is just another retarded thread to set up the boundaries for the sky screamers before the season even starts.

No losses are acceptable, some are tolerable. It all just depends on how everything shakes out at the end.

Maybe your definition of tolerable is different from mine, but a repeat of 2018’s record showing no improvement with this year’s team would be seriously deflating. It wouldn’t leave much reason for hope going into 2020.

there are way too many variables than looking at losses.

UT may catch lightning i a bottle and make the playoff, Bama will be Bama. And the SEC is good again...you could lose three and still be a top 6 team again.

If we go 2-0 against A&M and Florida, the record should be pretty damn good. Those are the swing games this year and we have both at home so I feel we won't play flat in either

I think we all agree that this year's LSU team is pretty stacked and experienced. We should have a real shot at the playoffs if things come together.

Having said that, our schedule is always tough.

-Texas
-Florida
-Auburn
-Bama
-A&M

All of these teams are going to be good also. I think Auburn may be the only one of those 5 that will start a new QB this season.

So, even though our team will should be better than last year's team (we think), we don't really know what these other teams will look like yet, either.

Florida is talented enough to make a run, and Auburn is always Auburn.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves. And let's not pretend that we've won something already. Let's see a game or 2..... and let's pray that our key pieces stay healthy.

Exactly what is wrong with the culture of LSU football and it's fans. 10 wins and all is fine. NO need to to be the best and dominate.

Which is why a blanket statement about a number of losses is stupid as hell. I wouldn’t expect different from the OP.
