Revisit it with THIS mesmerizing sky cam view of it set to music.

I probably watched it more than 20 times on loop. Perfection. Except for one thing…

I find myself constantly annoyed that coaches don't give punters more leeway to take off running in situations where all the defenders sprint off backwards at the punt snap. I'd say at least 5-6 times a game you see a punter with 40 yards of open grass when they need to gain 7-10. Maybe someone at some point will figure this out and find a way to keep their head on a swivel.

Whoever threw that block absolutely punished some poor defender.

Looks like the number is 13. Who was number 13 that year?

I was a student about five rows up in that endzone. It was electric. F UF.

I can’t believe they called that back

When your punter has more swag than your entire opponents side of the ball. What a season

There hasn’t been a punter in all of college football since Wing that has been able to flip the field like he did.

He singlehandedly is the reason lsu beat Alabama 9-6 in Tuscaloosa that November day.

1)You can't even SEE the fricking "penalty" from that view - all the more reason why it was soul-sucking absurdity that it was called

2)I'm always amazed at how calm and not excited the benches seem to get for big plays. Watch the LSU bench as Wing runs by - they are barely even reacting at all

3)Wing was extremely relevant to that season's success. He seems like an outlier among the Aussie punter invasion, as I'm not aware of any other gamebreaking punters since then. Someone correctly pointed out his relevance in the Bama game - and it wasn't just distance. It was also the crazy pooch ability where the ball would just land dead

4)Nearly impossible for me to think of a greater high than being a 20 year old running for a TD towards the LSU students' section in that situation. Truly, a peak experience.

He was actually pretty darn quick ( not that he had to be most of the way) but by the time he hits the 20 ydl and strides over a few he's moving..

Agree.

It was a very mild taunt and you should give a punter more leeway to celebrate.

Seems like I remember reading somewhere that this was the only time all season that this rule was applied. Same thing with the blocked XP against Auburn.

It was figured out in the 70’s when Dallas Cowboys punter, and backup QB, Danny White used to take off running about 8 times per season.

The problem is there is usually a giant mismatch in talent between the punter and the defenders. Also, you are relying on a non-football player to make that decision.
