After reading your post, which is great, I have to ask-- were you anti-O or pro-Herman?

i don't think O is the best hire we could've made in a world full of prospective hires. but we do not live in a world of infinite possibilities. otherwise we'd clone saban and have him coach against himself.

I have never been anti-O. only anti pointing to O as the best hire because of victories over Mizzou and USM. there is a world that exists where O does a great job.

the two guys out there that might've been potentially better than O didn't want to come here or else they would've.

All depends on coordinator's he chooses which the same can be said of anyone else. I really had a bad feeling watching UH v Memphis. Herman made some questionable decisions.

could be that people are already adjusting to his scheme.

I was for Fisher or Herman. at the end of the day, i'm now an Orgeron man. that's because he's our coach. I will give him a chance to prove his mettle.

Great post. Pretty much mirrors my thoughts. I was also high on Fleck. We could have missed out on an "up and commer".

I would have been more supportive if O had not regressed to the same Miles offense when on the big stage against Bama and UF. That was chickenshit

IB4 Danny missed the throws.

I don't understand why it is so hard to understand that O had to go with the system that was inherited. Now he can work on his own or the OC that he bring in. It is a really stupid argument for anyone with some sense.

System and play calling are two different things.

A lot of people are spewing venom towards the fact that we "settled" for O. In reality I think they are butt hurt that a couple of "elite" coaches weren't fighting each other for this job. Let's face the facts we ended up with the guy who wanted the job the most. he's going to give it 100%, will recruit his arse off, and coach his arse off. What more can you ask for?

Herman was my first choice but O was my second out of the three for those reasons and a few more.
I haven't heard much about the job Insminger did in seven games and feel he's getting short changed here. In seven games he produced the top three single player rushing records in LSU history with two different backs. Think about that, LSUs historically been a run first offense and Miles was a run all the time offense with the same RBs for the last two years and never accomplished that.
Anyone that blames the Florida loss on play calling is an idiot plain and simple I will not elaborate, so we lost one game to Bama that will probably go undefeated. Which brings me to another observation, I hear a lot of chatter about Kiffin. Do poeple honestly think he called a great game against LSU? He could have run up the middle at will on us but instead got cute and played right into our strengths.

Biggest selling point for me is LSU holds the cards on O's contract and based on his recruiting reputation worst case we are back doing this in two or three years.
Worst case with a ten year contract of guaranteed money is you are stuck if it doesn't work out.

This is true, but it goes hand in hand due to the nature in which the system was inherited mid season. I have no doubt in my mind that O and his new OC will have a better plan moving forward based on how well Aranda has been able to shine under O.

Coach O being from here + Aranda's awesomeness = the best recruiting we've had in a long time

With you 100%. I wasn't an O fan but this could be a great move. It's already working out well by getting rid of some of our shitty fans.

karmapol1ce, when I woke up this morning and found out that Coach O was now officially the head coach I was not happy. Then I read your post. Your common sense has talked me off the ledge. If we keep Aranda and get a top OC things will be OK. Thank you for your logic.

Good post. Certainly some advantages to the O hire and as LSU fans we have to look on the possible bright side. I believe he will work very hard. I don't like Lane personally, but he has done well as an OC. Hopefully, Ed can get him and retain Aranda which is I think is very key.

Agree with all observations of the OP ... I think Coach O has a special loyalty and understanding of what LSU means to the fanbase and once he starts having success the naysayers will take care of themselves. I didn't care for Miles and I'm looking forward to Coach O having success.
