BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — A Louisiana man was arrested near LSU’s campus after security officers at a gas station found him in possession of an AR-15.

Xander Collins, 20, of Kenner, was charged with carrying a firearm or dangerous weapon by a student or non-student on school property, at school-sponsored functions, or in a firearm-free zone.

The Kenner man was detained around 7 p.m. at the Circle K located at 3289 Highland Road while in possession of the gun, BRPD said.

The Baton Rouge Police Department was alerted by those security officers that Collins had taken the weapon out of his vehicle during an argument with a man.

LSU is a firearm-free zone, and the Circle K is located within 1,000 feet of the university.

The Kenner man was arrested while a football game was underway at Tiger Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 12.

It's not illegal to have a weapon at the circle K. But he's a dipshit for showing it. But I wouldn't go to that circle k without a gun. Your title implies he was on campus but that's not what the text you pasted from the article says. The whole thing is confusing

Guy from Kenner adjacent to the LSU campus on game day. It's not a stretch to draw that conclusion.

Did he not know it was a gun free zone? I thought the signs and strongly opinionated white women would be more effective. I guess 60% of the time really is every time.

So will he go to Angola or will he be cut loose due to “hug a thug” policies?

If this is the one by State street, it's been sketchy for a long, long time.

I’m not understanding the crime? Louisiana abolished the 1000ft rule back in 2025, so they charged him on an outdated law?
quote:

In June 2025, Louisiana passed Senate Bill 101, championed by State Senator Blake Miguez. This legislation functionally eliminated the state's 1,000-foot buffer zone for law-abiding citizens. [1] (LINK Rule: Lawful gun owners aged 18 and older can carry a firearm (concealed or openly) up to a school’s actual property line without needing a state permit.

Jesus I thought you guys weren't that soft in BR. Try tailgating in Chicago, you'll get to see a few driveby shootings and even shootings at MLB games. A redneck with an AR15 is zero harm

Brandishing is still a crime. Pulling out a firearm without reasonable fear of bodily harm even as an "attempt" to de-escalate is a crime in Louisiana
