LSU baseball has played 9 games in the Pacific time zone:

UNO hosted a regional in 1987?

UNO was deadly in the 80s. I think they eliminated Miss st in 84 to go to Omaha.

Pretty wild we went from 89 to 2010 without playing a regional on the road.

Yeah UNO was really good in the late 80s. Then they fell off and Tulane picked up their slack.

UNO was really good in the 1980s under Ron Maestri and Tom Schwanner, before Schwanner became a less effective coach.
In 1984, they were the first Louisiana team to go to Omaha, and way back when, Privateer Park had the best playing field in the state.

At that point in time, the regions were awarded based on bids and not just by ranking. Even though Cal Fullerton was the #1 seed they had to travel because they didn't have a large enough stadium. They were later a #1 seed in BR.
The old 6 team regionals were done different and travel had heavy influences on them. LSU, UNO, Tulane and Southern were all in the same regional even though they were all probably 2 or 3 seeds in todays format except for Southern.
Those regionals were allot of fun and by the time you got to Sunday, everyone was out of pitching and you saw many really high scoring games and it could really get out of hand if the "if necessary" game was played.

Randy Bush came out of UNO in the late 70's and played more than a dozen years for the TWINS. Even won a WS with the '87 team of Kirby Pucket (RIP) and Gary Gaetti won lives in Covington
Jimmy Bullinger played for UNO in the mid 80's and had a nice career with the Cubs.

Many may not remember that the Zephyr’s started their play in NOLA at Privateer Park before the “Shrine on Airline” was built.

That, and the gorilla ball bats.
I'll never forget the 96 South II at the Box.
Had to go look on Wikipedia to get the exact numbers...
Day 1
LSU 8 Austin Peay 5
UNO 13 Ga Tech 3
Tulane 10 UNLV 7
Day 2
LSU 7 UNLV 6
UNO 13 Tulane 5
Ga Tech 14, Austin Peay 3
Day 3
LSU 17 UNO 4
Ga Tech 7, Tulane 4
Ga Tech 12, UNO 7
Day 4
LSU 29, Ga Tech 13
4 games, 4 days, for LSU, 61 runs
That last day, LSU was on their 4th game, Ga Tech on their 5th
In some of the other regional champ games that year...
Clemson had 12 runs
Miami 8
Okie St 10
Florida 12
Wichita State 16
Alabama 18
FSU 9

Southern upset one of the California teams (I think Fullerton) in first round, changed entire regional

Ron Maestri used to take UNO to NCAA's often, and basically built that program at UNO. Prior to Skip Bertman, UNO was a thorn in the side of both LSU & Tulane and won regularly. He used to recruit the midwest and FL well before college baseball became big time and a money maker.
In the early days Coach Maestri would pass the hat to the crowd who lined the fences because they didn't really have a stadium.

Yep,I used to play the national anthem there on my trumpet. When I told Chris Bando, the manager at the time, that I was undefeated (6-0) when I played he asked me to come every night.
Baseball players are so superstitious.
