Nice bump.

They changed the targeting definition after the Devin White fiasco.

If someone were to make a training video of targeting hits, This would be the highlight of all highlights. Helmet to helmet, launched himself, led with the crown of the helmet with the intent to injure a defenseless player in the act of being tackled by another defender! I mean it’s the perfect targeting example!

15 yard penalty doesn't stop players from targeting, as much as an ejection does.

Pop a player in the head with the crown of your helmet is targeting and he should have been thrown out.

See who you tackle and he stays in the game. That’s on him

When I saw this thread my first thought was "is there a targeting rule in baseball?"

As bad as it may have seemed, it wasn't anywhere near what that Oklahoma fool did to CEH. That was a blindsided helmet to helmet launch. One of the worst intentional spearings I've ever seen in my life.

The ejection wasn't even enough punishment.

When Skalski lowered his helmet and made contact. That is targeting 100 out of 100 times. That action causes injuries that can be avoided by not frickin’ doing that.

Research shows the highest rate of spinal injury in any sport is from football players spear tackling. There is a reason it is so heavily punished.

It was the right call under the rule.

My guess is they were watching him after the lick he put on Burrow at the end of the first half - since he lowered his head as well.

He dropped the crown of his helmet into Burrows ribs before halftime.

Which was the reason he was being watched.

Then tried the same move with Jefferson

It was a proper ejection. It was purposeful.

How many times was Chaison held in that game and no call.
Rules, rules, rules?

That call may have saved HIM from not being able to feel his legs in the future. His tackling form is terrible. P&G shades fully on.

He was ejected based on the rule where he led with the crown of the helmet. It was a good call.

I agree. Don’t matter if it goes for us or against us. They are destroying the game. I guess liberalism has taken over football. Can’t hit the QB high. Can’t hit the QB low. It’s like a strike zone in baseball now. Below letters, above knees. Not reasonable to require defenders with 100% adrenaline to be able to do that.

To throw a guy out? Horse shite.

The whole idea of naming it "targeting" because it is assumed the player assessed with targeting is trying to injure the other player by using the helmet has a weapon. If a player would only be assessed a 15-yard penalty, that enables him to continue to do it in order to egregiously attempt to knock the opposing player out of the game. Now it can be used as a strategy. Some coaches will take 15-yards if it resulted in knocking out a key player of the opposing team in a big game to gain an edge.

No way. frick that guy. He tries to hurt players. Look at that hit on Burrow when he tore his rib cartilage. I get playing tough, but that was just unnecessary. The way he plays it just seems like his goal is an injury. I wouldn’t wish that on ANYONE on the field, ever.

NCAA are hypocrites. They allow these young men to play schools during recruitment. They have regulations that they say protects the young man because its a life changing decision for him to decide what school to go to. Then they have a rule, a good rule, for protecting him during a football game that is historically violent. Then after being penalized for that same infraction they screw it up by escorting him off the field embarrassed. Why don't they just handcuff him and have him arrested while they are at it?

What he was doing should be used in Videos as the example of what not to do. Very Dangerous for him and the ball carrier the way he was blatantly spearing!
