Do you guys think all the players "liked" Nick Saban when he had his foot in their backsides? I couldn't care less if the players like or love Les Miles. In football, the respect of the team is all that matters. If you lose respect and the team stops listening, that's when bad things start to happen.

Yat, I have a little insight and a few questions for you.

First,
quote:

Drake Nevis, Patrick Peterson,Jordan Jefferson, Stevan Ridley, Terrance Toliver, Russell Shepard, Kelvin Shepard, Joe Barksdale, T-Bob, Brandon Taylor, Jai Eugene, Daniel Graff.

were these the only guys there?

Second, I have a bit of insight on the players and the team (as vaguely as I can be about it, I had a player or two in my wedding party and quite a few more were present at the ceremony this summer), and most respect Miles very much. They think he is a top notch family man, and I have seen this myself. However, MOST do not actually talk to him at all. This has nothing to do with love/hate, it is simply that they are not coached by Miles. RBs love/hate Wilson. OL love/hate Stud, and so on. Many of these players, starters or back-ups, only see Miles or talk to him as part of a group, so to say that as individuals they ABSOLUTELY LOVE Miles may be a little strong. They certainly respect him, and they could love him, but with as little interaction as they usually have, I think that is just a little strong.

However, the elite upperclassmen, Kelvin, Patrick and what not, certainly interact with Miles more than anyone due to the multiple media engagements, so they could very well have a more personal relationship with Miles, and in fact, may "love" him. Most, I'd say 80-90%, would say that they respect Miles, but would probably never say the word "love". They would be much more inclined to talk and opinionated about their position coaches, however.

Frankly, it is totally irrelevant....

Like him or not, Love him or not, Respect him or not..
it does not matter.

It is about performing,
that's what Miles will be judged by...
and as far as that goes.. it does not really matter if it is the players' or the asst. coaches' fault
MILES is paid to bring it altogether and get results.

I do not buy this. These players did not live under a rock prior to coming to LSU. They got recruited by him, had interaction with him prior to committing to the program. They had to see something in him that appealed to them. There are a lot of players not here anymore because they had character issues and maybe personality conflicts with the staff, but not a large portion...no way

Having played for a guy that was just on your shite if you did something wrong, I'd say they hated him when they fricked up and loved him for caring.

You know how we knew a guy was done, was when they fricked up and this coach DIDNT kill him.

No, there some other guys I didn't recognize.

I changed my damn title for the second time. Maybe they just sort of like him but what I saw Saturday it was blatantly obvious that the relationship they had with Miles was first class.

I know they interact more with the position coaches but they were with Miles Saturday and it was almost like Miles was there with his own family. I was amazed. I guess I should have just kept my mouth shut. I didn't intend for this thread to go down this road.

I'd say more than any other school in the SEC, the campus, atmosphere and other intangibles play an enormous factor in recruiting at LSU.

You're not gonna go to Auburn unless you're giddy ga-ga in love with the coach, but that may not be true at LSU.

I DON'T want our players to like their coach. However, as long as they're winning, I'm happy.

The people I knew around the team always said the program was good to be around and Miles overall was a great guy.

They were a little confused about some of the coaching decisions he made, but that was it.

Look, nothing I said was meant to debunk your thread. I asked about the players there because I know quite a few that are in that group or hang out with that group, and I was surprised not to see their names listed. Maybe they did not go , however.

You can keep your title however you like it. I agree with you on mostly everything you said. The players absolutely respect Miles and by all accounts enjoy being around him. Some certainly question his play calls in retrospect, but that is perfectly normal at this level. I was trying to help you with some supporting information.

No, definitely not. These kids deserved to be recognized for the involvement they have in the community. This is a truly stand up team and Miles definitely surrounds himself with some top-notch kids, character wise.

Note: A large majority of the offensive players think that Crowton is an ingenious coordinator and love his play book, they are just often dumbfounded by the extremely small portion that shows itself in the games.

What the players and coaches do in the hospital with these kids and some of the other things they do need to be discussed more. The LSU players and coaching staff give up their time numerous times throughout the season so some kid can have 15-30 minutes that he will remember for rest of their lives.
The impact these players and coaches have on these kids many people over look and do not understand. I think there needs to be more stories about this because it is something positive the players are doing outside of the field that impacts people more than their play on the field.

There were so many there and I didn't get to go around to all of them. I listed the ones I remembered that came by me and the three kids I had with me. It was a very awesome experience.

I know a former Saban recruit who was All-SEC and played for both Saban and Miles who said he liked Miles but Miles doesn't come close to Saban as far as being a football coach. Didn't feel Miles was too intelligent.Miles likeable, just not too bright.

Well at first I thought it was a bunch of players and you just listed the prominent starters, but when I saw Daniel Graff listed, I thought is was a finite list. Thanks for bringing up this topic as the players and coaches deserve recognition. I am not sure what you do, but thanks you for helping with the kids as well.

True or not, it doesn't speak well for you to make such a charge and then whimp out when you are called on it.

Most players except for a handful hated Saban. He probably made their stomach cringe.
