Also, people are saying that Hatch couldn't start at Harvard so he can't start here. Hatch was a freshman before he left for South America. Most true freshman don't start.
I'm not sure if that was a response to me but just in case....
I'm not saying he "can't" start here since he didn't start there, but it is a legit question. Most true freshmen don't start, but we're not talking about handing the keys over to a guy that didn't start as a freshman at a CUSA school. We're talking about a guy that didn't start for a school on Southeastern's level.
If he is good enough to lead one of the best teams in the country, in the toughest conference in the country, you would think he would have started for them when he stepped on campus.

It was not a response directed towards you. I have heard this from many people and in my post I just wanted to address a few statements people have made about both Lee and Hatch.

In the long run...we will have to have a QB who offers the threat of downfield passing
while i agree, if the other option is a QB who can't read a defense then we're better off with the noodle arm

I think the first game will be more like a 60-40 ratio in the first game with whoever shows up best during the fall camp in August.
The one that produces best on the field will then see a natural progression in increased snaps. By the fourth/fifth game or so the starter will be apparent.
Then the % will be something like 80 - 20.
JMHO

Lee Highlights
The Hatch highlights on page 1 were very impressive, to me. The Lee highlights are impressive also.
He throws a couple of beautiful passes - one where the ball travels 50 yards in the air and he hits D. Byrd in stride for a TD.
I know that these clips are just short samplings, but these guys have talent. If they can manage the game and make good decisions, we'll be fine.
I have full confidence in Coach Crowton to get our QB's ready for the season. I think we surprise a lot of people.

How about, "Hatch has more game experience than Lee and probably more maturity." I would also be curious to hear how Hatch and Lee manage the players in the huddle. When Flynn played in the Miami game, the a lot of the players commented that he "took control" in the huddle and the players had a lot of confidence in his ability to run the team.

Does attempting 2 passes in 1 quarter of mop-up duty against one of the worst defenses in college football really make a difference in the "experience" department?
No.

If you don't think both will see time in the first 3 games then stop posting because your opinion is worth shiite. Both have abilities and both will see time. IMO, Hatch has the advantage of being older and more mobile. This offers the most possibilities of keeping the defense honest. Plus, he did some damn good throwing in the spring game, epecially some doozies on the run. Lee has the better arm and even better potential, but I think Croton runs the offense and Hatch is definitely a Croton guy so I think Hatch ends up starting but Lee takes over by the end of the season either due to injury or better play.

Hatch runs a 4.5 and RP runs a 4.6.

Does Hatch have the potential to even offer that passing threat?
Hatch will start until Jefferson is ready. Lee will be a solid #2 until Jordan's ready.

i think Lee is the man and I hope to see him take over half of the snaps this season.

actually jefferson and hatch can spread the offense also, esoecially with the talent we have on offense

Have you guys seen it 1st hand, or is it soley because he once attended Harvard.
Folks are really talking about things they do not know. Hatch's mechanics look like Danny Wuerful, which a "push from the shoulder" style of throw. In the spring game, he "pushed" the ball down field a few times and threw a solid ball rolling to his right against his motion on the money to Mitchel for a TD, demonstrating adequate arm strength for the college game. In addition, Hatch has suppposedly had a small tweak to his arm and has hit the weights, as well as has made a small tweak to his mechanics - as such, Hatch has added to a skillset that seemed adequate for the LSU offense.
Hatch is the better runner. Hatch is Crowton's boy. Hatch is the elder classman. Hatch is fro Harvard, so he had better know the playbook inside and out. Hatch will have 1) the best Olin in the SEC and maybe the country, 2) one of the best and most talented RB corp in the country, 3) one of the most talented wide receiver corp in the country, 4) an all-SEC TE, 5) the wizard as an OC who will tailor make the offense to fit Hatch's running and throwing style.
The result? Hatch will be more than adequate, and the Tiger offense will keep the defense guessing all season long with many, many weapons, and the 2008 LSU offense, with Hatch as starter and Lee/JJ spelling him to mix it up, will be better than the 2007 or the 2003 offenses.
In other words, Hatch can lead us to the promise land, so we'll be a-ight !

I guess some on this board know more than a guy that:
has been a Offensive Coordinator, Quarterback Coach, Head Coach and Passing Game Coordinator.
has stops at Oregon, BYU, Chicago Bears, Louisiana Tech, Georgia Tech, Boston College and New Hampshire.
A year ago, as OC had the LSU offense set 10 school records, including points in a season (541), points per game (38.6) and touchdowns scored (64), on its way to posting a 12-2 overall mark. Other single-season school records set in 2007 include rushing TDs (35), passes attempted (442), passes completed (256), total yards (6,152), total plays (1,054) and first downs (316). LSU also scored at least 40 points a school-record seven times in 2007.*
*The Tigers enjoyed all of their offensive success in 2007 employing a balanced attack, one that had LSU averaging 214.1 rushing yards per game and another 225.3 passing yards a contest. The Tigers also put up their record-setting numbers with a running back-by-committee approach for most of the year, with a first-time starting quarterback in Matt Flynn, who was hobbled for several games with an ankle injury and missed the SEC Championship Game altogether with a shoulder injury, and perhaps the most explosive player on the team in wideout Early Doucet missing five games with a groin injury.
A coach hired by the Bears:
In his first year with the Bears in 1999, Crowton’s offense ranked No. 3 in the NFL in passing with an average of 258.5 yards per game. That year, the Bears established a franchise record with 4,136 passing yards behind a trio of quarterbacks.
Why not question a guy that has sent seven quarterbacks into the NFL Draft.
Maybe Les should look for another OC?

Jauron wasted no time in assembling his coaching staff, and made waves by naming Gary Crowton, his new offensive coordinator. This move was significant in that Crowton employed a wide-open offensive scheme, using the shotgun on first and second downs, 5 receivers, three tight ends, anything to try to create mismatches on the defense. It would be the first time the NFL would see such a wide-open offensive scheme, and many questioned Crowton's razzle-dazzle offense at the pro level.
