the patent false assertion that the students are to blame from a bunch of poors that can't even be bothered getting on campus for the game is hilarious.
I wonder if any of these people even went to LSU

Agree 100%.
It would cost a family of four $1,000 to go to last night's rain event once you consider the cost of the tickets, TAF fees, parking, gas, and outrageous concession prices.
The problem (for years) has related not to no-shows, but to folks leaving lesser games early -- in droves. It is a propensity really unique in the SEC to LSU fans, and it might have affected the team last night.

If LSU was really serious about fixing this, they would save a huge block of tickets in the endZones for the die hard , "blue collar" fans. Then when it rains, we suck, or we are playing a cupcake, we can see how die hard they really are.

The tickets on the west side have been in the same families for years. The owners are old and if they don't give their tickets away they leave early because of the traffic which is worse now because of the addition to the stadium.
Remember even when half full there will be over 40,000 in the stands. A good opening game attendance for most schools.

I think the root cause of our crowd issue is what has happened with the TAF and ticket prices. The only people that can really afford season tickets are the upper crust. Gone are our diehard blue collar fans that stayed for every play, soaked in bourbon, and treasured a Saturday night in Tiger Stadium.
If you can afford 5-7 thousand for season tickets, then you can afford to let them go unused on a rainy night with the game on espn. I realize the money is needed to compete, but it has changed the nature of who attends the games away from our more traditional fan base.
Wrong.
There were a ton of tickets outside of the stadium, as there are for most game. Cheap tickets. If you want to go to the game, it is not that hard.

I'm glad there are a lot less of this kind of trash in our stadium. No matter where I sit, it seems I end up next to a dumb arse drunk redneck who yells shite all game about how bad the team or the coach is. Fck them.

I fully realize that on a rainy day or against a poor team most people could probably show up and find some tickets. My OP is referencing season tickets. I also realize that there are more affordable season tickets available in the end zone and upper decks - places where the option of a better view from your couch is a reasonable argument for not going, IMO.
Lots of great points here on many other reasons why our crowds tend to dwindle. Obviously something many of us have some concern over, regardless of what we think the cause is.

Once the excitement is gone from the game the crowd heads out to tailgate with friends and watch other games.
This is the problem. Everyone is more concerned about "The Tailgate" instead of the game.

fricking this. Alabama's ticket prices are higher, and they still pack the house for every game.

Going to LSU games since 2003 when we won the BCS Title has become the cool event to be at. Jus so happens its a football game also. Prob less than 40% of this in attendance each game are actually fans of the game. It is a cool event to be at to take pics and put on Facebook or rag your girlfriends about since they graduated from another Univeristy. Once that is all over about midway though the second quarter, they realize the have 2 more hours and nothing but the GAME to do. So it is off to the next social event at halftime. Others don't like fighting the traffic and such. It is simply more of a social event now and will be as ticket prices increase. The game is second or third in importance.

Fan behind me last night bitched about all the students and other fans leaving early. He then left 10 minutes later.

tickets: at most $20 a piece, so let's say $80 but realistically much less for that.
parking: free-$40 at most to park
then food and drinks: free at a tailagate-$40
ponchos: $5 a piece
so we're looking at: $60-$160 to take a family of four to last nights rain event.
Not bad for a 7 time a year event in tiger stadium

they still have fans that leave games early though

Root cause in my opinion is the lack of concern from LSU with keeping up with TV coverage. It easier and much more informative to watch a game at home or at a tailgate party.
You never have any idea what is really going on in the game. The replays sux. Get a challenged call, fans in the seats have no idea what's going on. They never give you multiple replay shots of what happened. LSU acts like we would riot if we say replays. We paid for a seat, treat us like we're part of the viewing audience. Let the replay official give a reasonable explaination of the call along with the replay.
