Greatest LSU Sports moments?

The man won a NC and over 100 games. I was Glad it happened but it wasn’t a great moment it was depressing to watch him collapse like that.

This.

His time had come, obviously. But after Saban left, what was your expectation of a hire? Didn't Les clear that bar? Look at how fast Tennessee fell off after Fulmer or Florida after Urban. The hat earned his keep at LSU. Put some respeck on his name.

I appreciate all that Les did.

I'm just sorry he didn't do more..........because he had many opportunities to do more.

Les is a nice guy who didn't finish last..........but he could have finished first a few more times.

Oh, well. We move on. And forward.

Ignorant.

Saban turned LSU into a power. He not only won two SEC and one National Championship, he re-established LSU as a national brand, stopped the recruiting losses of in-state talent and built the infrastructure for LSU success: a modern football ops building and academic center for athletes.
Miles walked into an embarrassment of riches.

All of this.

To a a good degree, that had been done before Nick arrived

A lot of coaches have walked into riches and failed to win conference and NC

Mike Archer did have a 10-1-1 record, the next year was 8-4, but included in those 4 losses was a 44-3 destruction by Miami. The next year he suffered a losing season with Tommy Hodson at QB( let that sink in) and after LSU fired him he has never been a head coach again.

Dinardo slowed it down but didn’t stop it. Clayton and Spears were not coming to LSU if not for Saban. Saban pulled Corey Webster and Randall Gay out of his hat.

Miles gets credit for maintaining, not building.

It could be argued that Les underachieved with what he inherited. I am glad we won it 2007 but that team should have never lost two games and it took a bizarre last weekend to vault us back up to #2.

DiNardo should get a lot of the credit for this if we are being honest. Neither Saban nor Miles walked into empty closets as far as talent is concerned.

But then this board isn't noted for honesty.

So Miles could have taken a 3-8 team and tturn them into National Champions in a couple of years? Get real. Let's be honest.... Miles was handed the keys to the kingdom and royally fricked it up. He rode the Saban wave for years (and YES! that's how huge the momentum was). Saban built a Championship culture from dust. Love him or hate him - LSU will forever be in his debt for that. That's the most important thing that Miles inherited. It's lunacy to heap all the underserved credit on Miles. He was just a lucky buffoon. Go Kansas!!

At least Miles never lost to first year coach DiNardo in a bowl game.

Even a decent coach here post-Saban would've basically prevented the Bama dynasty, they were still feeling the effects of sanctions when Saban got there: we had a huge "head-start." I had watched watching Elmer Fudd's Oklahoma State team blow a 35-7 lead to Texas in 2004, and was completely at a loss to why anyone would want him. T Boone Pickens was about to buy that clown out!

I’m admittedly not an LSU fan (though I pull for y’all every time against Saban, because he’s a jackhole) but agree with this right here. Some can claim all he did was piggy back off Saban’s success, but see FL State post-Jimbo (a guy many LSU fans wanted back at Baton Rouge to take the reigns), U of Miami, USC after Pete Carroll, etc to understand it’s not exactly easy to follow what a previous coach built up. Especially when it’s someone like Saban who had recruiting roads in Louisiana and could tell players “Just follow me, and I’ll make Alabama what I made LSU”.

Was Miles stubborn and soon behind the times? Yes. But to say his eventual firing was some great day is a bit much.

USL fan wanted LSU to keep a buffoon who was holding them down from their potential? Shocker! Immediately after Less finally got canned, LSU set offensive records in like three straight games. A fourth rate coach at a top flight job. The idiocy of trying to run a Bo Schembechler offense with running QBs at LSU is almost unprecedented, not to mention how undisciplined and emotionally soft his teams were

Umm...I agreed with the poster who said he probably should have been replaced earlier than he was. Your reading comprehension sucks.

I’m indifferent about LSU because I didn’t attend the school. Plain and simple. But I always actively pull for y’all against Alabama (or any team Nick Saban coaches in the future), Ole Miss and Arkansas. Other games I just sit back and enjoy good SEC football with no real preference either way other than wanting to watch a good game.
