Why are we such pussies about this!? Put the fricking tiger in the cage and drive him down the middle of the field.
It's not like we are dragging him out of the jungle. He's a domesticated tiger. Throw a fricking 5 lb bloody roast in the cage after not feeding him after Friday at lunch.
I'll tell you what the problem is..he's got it too damn good. Show him pics of the old cage 20 yrs ago and tell him get in "or else"

and no doubt it would be if we start freaking him out by forcing him to get into a tiny cage and paraded around 100,000 screaming drunk Cajuns.
But they wont, and I respect the handlers and Vet school for not being pressured.

It's not easy getting tigers anymore, you don't just call up the Nairobi Walmart and order one.
Wow, I didnt realize that.
Listen, our Athletic Department an its boosters have connections that some people cant even imagine. This wont be the last Mike. If the Zoo in Alexandria can have a Tiger, LSU can have one. Mike's habitat is better than probably 80% of the Tiger habitats in the country at Zoos.

I was told by a handler from last year that Mike will never get in the cage with the current vet that takes care of him. Supposedly he got passed over for a deans job and doesn't give a crap anymore. She said they really don't even try to get him in the cage under that guys leadership.
I think the fireworks is a cover story.
Exactly. Find a new "head vet".
For all the "you can't make a 500 lb tiger do something he doesn't want to do", do you think the tiger would rather live in a habitat, or out in the wild? They make him do things he doesn't want to do all the time. Don't tell me they don't use drugs on him to get his teeth checked by the vet dentist.

I really dont see what the big deal is about Mike being drug through the game. The trailer he rides in makes him barely visible and most in the stadium can't even see him. You could put a stuffed animal in there and few would even know it.
Leave the cat alone. If people want to see him, catch him at his enclosure.

There is a lot of truth in these comments...pro and con about Mike going to the games. I'm ok either way, but it was cool when Mike was present.
LSU is under a lot of pressure because Tigers are endangered...it is what it is...whether we like it or not. Governments typically suck and are influenced by PETA and other watch dog organizations.

You mean old, sick and drunk fans.
It would work but from reading this thread it seems a large group of "fans" wants the cat to be traumatized because "he has it to easy".

All this.
I get that it's tradition, and I certainly do love some tradition. But...this one is simply so small and unimportant to me.
It's VERY important to me that LSU have a live Bengal Tiger mascot on campus. Very important. It's of almost no importance at all if we get him into a cage barely twice his size with so many bars and screens across it that almost no one can see him unless you're right next to him for roughly 10 minutes to roll around the stadium when half of fans aren't even in their damn seats.
If he was like Bevo and stood around on the sidelines all game, or we ran him down the field like they do that Buffalo in Colorado...yeah, I certainly would not want to lose that!
But we don't. He lies down in his cage looking bored while cheerleaders jump off the top.

The opponents that have the tiger sitting right next to them when they are warming up know. I am in that endzone before most of the games, and I can guarantee you that Mike is quite the hit with visitor team into Tiger Stadium as well as the home fans in the lower bowl.

Send his arse to the alexandria zoo for a year. Then he'll get out of his cage on game day

Well it's not like there wasn't an identical 7 page thread last week and the week before that.

So they are choosing a shitty firework display over a live tiger mascot? Something does not compute here.
