Lafayette High School, or at best Lafayette Junior College, would be a more accurate designation than the University of Anything.

Its simple. Your name has been given to you by the State of Louisiana and its not University of Louisiana. The legislature would not have allowed you to change your name had they known your effort. ULM has tried to comply with the designation given. If you do not like the Lafayette designation ask the legislature to change it. Until then be prepared to hear from the public outside of Lafayette.

I can understand some of the Cajun frustration and bitterness. They did have the "UL" tag as their name for a period of time. It was then stripped from then by the state. I think we all should be able to understand that having something you wanted and then having it taken away can lead to bitterness and a feeling of displeasure toward any you feel aided the take away.
I'm not saying what the Cajuns tried in 84 and still are trying, at least fan base wise, was right or wrong. Only that I can understand the move/try and the reaction of some on both sides of the issue.
Personally, I never understand the problem with USL once the state denied the "UL" try and certainly if I was a Cajun fan I would have never pushed for "UL@L" and been tied at the hip with another state school by city tags. Looking at it from a distance, I just don't understand the desire to go from USL to UL@L...but each to our own.

No, really-- when I was in high school and at LSU, it was USL and NLU, not ULALA and ULAMO. At that time, they had some identity that was distinct. Now they just come off as JUCOs.
