The puzzling thing about House

Last year, he seemed to adapt the way he used his personnel and made great halftime adjustments. If the opponent had a successful offensive first half, House was pretty darn good at making adjustments at the half that slowed down whatever the opponent was doing well. I was really impressed with his ability to do this. What the heck happened? The D is a mess with no successful adjustments from the first snap to the last snap.

It's not the talent so what else could it be?

I do not believe we have many SEC caliber defensive backs right now. You can’t hide that for very long.
I also think we lack fundamentals on things like angles, gap assignment, and edge setting.
We also don’t play with enough physicality in the front 7.
Some is scheme and coaching. Some is effort and giving a frick by player.

Maybe he had better players. Have you seen how Maason Smith plays?

Talent on D is a big issue. Especially in the secondary.
That said… a sit back and zone wait isn’t working either.
Personally I think we need to blitz a lot more than we are currently. I think we had too much confidence in our front 7 to get consistent pressure, and they are obviously not doing that. If they’re going to be wide open doing what we’re currently doing anyway, at least give us a chance at applying some pressure, what’s the harm?
The tackling I how we fix that
LSU should NEVER be ranked #117 in total defense

We lost most of the experienced dbs from last season that came out of the Portal. Now he is using Kelly recruits that have been coached only by this staff.
Scary isn't it.

Last year we were singing his praises. This year, we’re calling for a new D.C. I know we are a little weak in the secondary, but the Defense should be better than what we’re seeing!

The craziest shite is he made almost $150k last night if you break his salary up into 12 games and a bowl game

He wanted to leave after last season and go back to the nfl and Brian Kelly begged him to stay. Now, we didn’t replace the good players that we lost on defense from last year and Matt House just doesn’t care anymore. He and probably the whole defensive staff will be gone after the season.

Sounds like something Culotta would report

That’s what a few credible posters on paid site were saying.

This...Greg Brooks making adjustments in the secondary is certainly a handicap, the ILB's take terrible angles to gap responsibilities, and the DB's aren't very good tacklers. Great athletes, can cover but 7 on 7 competitions don't allow tackling...just an entirely different mindset when it's 11 on 11...

Not calling you a liar but if this is true…..
Edit for typo.

I didn't really notice if the Defense was making adjustments or not last year, but they clearly suck this year compared to last year. And I think their performance is alot worse than can be explained away by average talent level of the players -- which I don't buy anyway. So, something must be wrong with the coaching.
just speculating here, some possible causes could be:
1. Myaybe Defensive coaching staff is very short-handed right now. That's causing lots of disruption to coaches' normal routine, they're not getting things done that they use to get done.
2. Maybe Matt House is busy interviewing for another job, deep in the interview process, very distracted by it. Perhaps even travel mid week for interviews with other teams?
3. Burn out. It happens in every industry to mid-leve/high-level professionals. Some will just burn out, stop producing, completely lose motivation to do the job. They typically don't admit it openly, so you get serious lapses in performance.

Good. They can’t even teach tackling.

It feels like our DB’s are flat footed for the first 3 seconds of every play— leading to horrible angles, whiffed tackles, and absolutely zero pursuit or gang tackling. Just slow and unsure.

House has a lot of blame, but I think it has more to do with the players. We did blitz quite a few times last night, and everytime I saw someone from the secondary blitz I just knew a receiver was going to be right behind wide open with a big gain. I simply don't think we have the players. The line is highly overrated, almost every single run was netting a few yards. We very rarely stuffed a team that up to last night could not run. We don't produce much pressure, and when we do produce pressure we let wide lanes open up for the QB to step up into for an easy completion. Our DBs are poor and can't stay on their guys. They play zone and we aren't able to cover our assignments. This defense is simply not what we thought. The players are failing and the coaching is also failing. Not sure what the solution is, but something needs to happen.
