Exactly. People don’t take into consideration that a lot of tones these players have family , friends, and agents in their ear telling them the risk of injury and how costly it would be. The coaches really can’t say anything either when it comes to that kind of money because their “loyalty “ goes out the window all the time when presented huge offers.

Come on the guy is about to sign a contract worth $30 million any person who risk that for a regular bowl game would be crazy. Get off your high horse that is life changing money for him and his family. No one can blame him.
What's the difference between this game and the A&M game? Wouldn't he have to be just as crazy to play in that?

So indicative of this generations selfishness.
Greedy owes you nothing. He has a daughter to provide for and his family doesn’t come from a great background. He has nothing to gain and everything to lose by playing in a bowl game. He’s a lock to go in the top 10. He literally has millions on the line.
I hope he plays but will completely understand if he doesn’t.

It’s can be better for LSU for some players to sit out. They can now focus on coaching up younger players and getting those players experience.
I’m not saying all players who are leaving should sit out. But a first round pick should.

I'd rather the player that is a first round prospect because of the showcase LSU provided have his arse on the field and contribute to winning a bowl game. Winning that bowl helps LSU.
Young players benefit from the extra practice reps bowl season presents...stars need to be on the field.

A kid out of High School receives an ROTC scholarship for a college education in return for military service. If the country is at war when he or she graduates they don’t get to sit out and they aren’t worried about a torn ACL. They have a chance of getting a bullet to the head.
In my mind a college athlete on scholarship has agreed to provide his athletic services in return for a college education so sitting out a bowl game would be a breach of contract.
I work offshore and have to fly on a helicopter to get to work. There is some inherent danger in that helicopter flight. I can’t say uh no you need to provide a boat for me. I have to nut up and crawl on that helicopter.
Letting kids sit out of bowl games teaches a terrible life lesson.

I feel if they sit out and do not fulfill there end of the contract then when they get there millions of dollars signing bonus the should have to reimburse the taxpayers for there college education.

Taxpayers don’t pay for athletic scholarships.

Since 1/9 LSU hasn’t had any success on and off the field

I get what you’re saying but these star athletes are not in these situations. They’re more akin to the savant or genius that all the tech companies want to hire and throw massive sign on bonuses to. For better or worse their skills are in high demand. I’m sure if you were a hotshot who designed the rig in a way that would maximize efficiency they’d get you a boat.
A baw working on a rig or a guy signing up for the infantry is easily replaceable. That’s just life.

I NEED a farmer just about every day. I have NEEDED a doctor before. I have NEEDED a teacher before. This country has NEEDED Soldiers before. I have NEEDED an auto mechanic and an electrician before. I have NEVER NEEDED NOT EVEN ONCE a Hollywood entertainer, media personality, or PRO ATHLETE!!!

College athletics are supposed to instill integrity and backbone. This practice of sitting out does not enforce that.
If I were a coach I would sit them them down and give them my analogy above of the person with the ROTC Scholarship serving in the military in exchange for a college education and then let the Nancy make his own decision.

That would be boosters. Pretty sure if you tried to do this, you would never se another 5 Star (or even 4 star) at LSU again.

Then why is it one of the shadiest institutions out there?

How is it any less of a risk to his NFL career to play in a playoff game instead of a NY6 bowl?

I actually enjoy seeing young players step up and have a big game in the bowl game. They can use this game as momentum going into next season. Honey Badger had his coming out party in the Cotton Bowl in 2010.

The college athletic system is now totally corrupt as a farm team for the nfl with old white men making millions off of poor black young men. As a white, right wing republican old fart I totally understand it and would like to see more of it. No kid should put his financial future at risk for someone else’s definition of character.
