It’s year one. The LSU staff had to install everything, and they didn’t have enough time to install everything. What would you let slip in this situation? Offense? Defense? Or special teams?
What are you talking about?

They installed special teams just like they installed the offense and defense. You are making excuses.
He has an entire spring and summer. Now if you want to say he is not playing front line guys that's a valid argument.
He had more than enough time to get his special teams up to snuff.
This is stuff that can be worked on in oractice during the week.
Also, perkins is in on special teams.

So put "assistant coach" in his title and go get a real special teams coach to run things. It's not hard. If he doesn't like it, there's the door.
And fire who?

My issue with Polian is him screaming directions at guys while the ball is in the air the last two weeks. Besides the fumbles (which are not his fault), we don't seem well prepared on how we're even lining up when kicks are coming. And we also had a formation penalty after a very nice punt last night, so we had to punt over. Fortunately, the punter booted two nice ones in a row.
He looks nervous every kick. That rubs off on the players.
Dude is a weirdo.

On Polian, I don't like what I see so far. ST is a mess, and whereas both defense and now offense have seen moments of great improvement, the same cannot be said of ST.
I'll give him some time because the sample size is still too small given our roster considerations, but I'm very skeptical/concerned in his contributions as a coach.
Hope he proves me wrong, but if not, CBK will need to make a decision, which I do trust him to do.

5 of 7 games, the Offense has sputtered. In only two of them, did Denbrock have the offense shine from kickoff to the final whistle. Yesterday was aruably its best performance, so you can argue the offense is improving as the season rolls on.
The Defense has had some lapses in each game, but House adjusted well after FSU and his D is clearly the team's strongest, most reliable/consistent unit.
For 7 games straight, Special Teams has been pure dogshit and arguably had its worst performance 7 games in. Polian's unit is ranked 117th in the nation. That's indefensible, unacceptable and fireable.

The thing about ST is that these kids having been doing it their whole lives. There aren't any crazy unique concepts or huge variances between systems. It's blocking and tackling stuff and comes down to focus and discipline.

Let him be the tight ends or long snapper "coach" then.
Relieve him of special teams stat. Dude makes me a nervous wreck just watching him scurrying around the sidelines looking panicked/clueless. I can't imagine the players.

It was pathetically sad how they basically had a camera on him following him as the frick ups were in progress. Even the tv crew knows its a joke

Give him an experienced retired special teams coach as his personal analyst on the shadow staff. And do it tomorrow.
Bring back McMahon, he our special teams rock solid.

And it happens every game now, showing him bumbling along the sidelines looking like a fool. Decidedly not a good look.

If LSU lost last night, this would be the number one question of the day.

That’s just complete nonsense. They drove into scoring range on 5 of 7 drives against FSU. That’s not sputtering. They put up 65 on Southern. That’s not sputtering. They scored on 5 of their last 7 drives against Miss St after a bad start. Overall, it was a decent performance. They drove into the red zone on 7 of their first 8 possessions against New Mexico with 5 TDs. That’s not sputtering. Clearly they didn’t sputter last night.
That just leaves Auburn and Tennessee. No question they stunk things up on offense against Auburn. Against Tennessee, they were without two starting OL and dug a big hole early. That effectively eliminated the running game and made them one dimensional. They moved the ball well at times, but overall it was a bad performance. Still, that’s 2 of 7 sputtering, the exact opposite of your claim.

Only at 64? Means we can sign 35-40 to try and hit 85

What other coach do you fire to accommodate that?

You don't need an elite talent to catch a punt. If he can't find or teach someone to do it by game 7 he is failing.

Special teams problems like we have come from a lack of depth. It’s supposed to be our second level cuts and we don’t have that. Just look at those scholly stats

quote:but our kick/punt returners have had 4 drops this year already. And our coverage teams are awful.
I'll admit that our special teams need to be better....but dammit.....you can't blame a coach when our guys keep dropping the ball !!!
Something's very wrong.
At some point, you can't keep blaming players and have to hold the ST coach responsible for what's happening on the field.
Now sure, a coach can't make a guy catch every ball. But when we've had 4 muffs already this year, and awful coverage and penalties, the blame belongs at the top.
And that's Polian.

Like Greg McMahon. Thank m not sure it’s all Polians fault, but it’s a huge liability that has to improve.

Is purely because we don't have the horses to run a half decent kick off unit?
I think so.

Last I checked, we have ~64 scholarships used, well below the 80-something allowed by the NCAA. No reason to put our starting offensive/defensive players on the field and risk injury.
Polian said as much I an interview last week. They can't risk putting their front-liners out there because of depth issues.
But most here don't want to listen to reason.
