The Pistol did this in 3 years. It has taken him 5 years. No record is broken here. When a player does this in 3 years then the record is broken. Until that happens this is all BS. Pistol Pete's record will never be broken by any player in 3 years.

This seems similar to the QB who beat Joes passing yards or whatever a year or so ago at a small school. Who Cares.
There is only 1 people remember.

Davis scored 34 in today’s loss and in 33 shot attempts so his team is trying to let him get the total.

He’s currently 63 (needs 64 to surpass) behind Pistol with his conference tourney coming up.

They are hosting Purdue Fort Wayne who they have beaten 2x this year with Davis scoring 32 and 22 in those games.

Hopefully 3rd times a charm for PFW and Detroit is too focused on Davis getting off shots than overall execution and they get beat. Would be such a soft way for Pistol's record to be technically broken.

How many games did Davis play? How many games did Pistol play?

Really soft.

Total games played

Pistol - 83
Davis - 142

Lol. Not even comparable.

I think PFW hosts.

And yes, Pistol did it in 3 years without a 3 point line whereas Davis is a 5th year player.

He also did it without a shot clock. Pistol’s NCAA scoring records are some of the greatest records in all of sports, when you put into context.

It's the same kind of uneasy, queasy feeling I got when that QB from Western Kentucky beat Burrow's TD and passing record in a season a couple years back.

Some records are intended to last--forever.

And, Pistol scored over a thousand points as a freshman that didn’t go towards his point total

It counts, but he won’t be remembered as being on the same level. I would say that most experts wouldn’t consider him a top 10 player in college basketball this season. Much less in a debate for a best collegiate player ever conversation.

Somebody from LSU went back and charted Pete’s shots. I forget what he would have averaged with a three point line. I think he was over 8 threes a game.

Pete score over 700 points on the freshmen team, fr team did not play many games in those days.

Also many of us went back and made shot charts on games on film from his college days, a little over 8 attempts a game close to the 3 point line, if i remember correct.

Pete is held in high regard both collegiately and professionally . No one will doubt that Pete Maravich is truly the all-time Div. 1 scoring champ.

I’m tired of hearing about this guy breaking Pete’s record. When he averages 44 point per game I’ll pay attention (and no 3 point baskets).
