This is the one play that will get Johnson a standing ovation at the Box.

The opponent goes three and out with a strikeout and two ground outs. The LSU first at bat hitter stings an opposite field single and now the stage is set.

The second hole batter lays down a first pitch bunt back at the pitcher and sacrifices the runner to second, a routine play for every top program in the country, save LSU.

And that’s it. The crowd and the Rant go wild. LSU bunted a guy over on the fits pitch. Johnson is a hero. But herodom doesn’t last long on the Rant. Johnson does get a break. The Rant is never satisfied with anything less than a division title in baseball. I think the bar for Johnson will be having the team at least compete for the West. And teaching kids how to bunt a runner over.

Statistically the bunt isnt a good idea. Analytics are showing that and thats why you dont see big league teams do it anymore (except for pitchers)

The stolen base is much much better

You need to be successfully stealing at a minimum of about 80% successful to make it worth it

What's the big deal?

Jaxxyden and Breadon hit back to the pitcher all the time.

Disagree with the 80%. But its not that hard to have above average speed guys to have 70%-80% with stealing second

Plus if the pitcher knows you want to steal, it really can disrupt his rhythm

I'll settle for teaching the 2nd baseman how to throw to first.

Its built in to the 80%. Giving away outs on the bases is dumb

An opposite field single and then another base hit would be way cooler but maybe that’s just me

The board would be incensed that Johnson had Tre Morgan bunting Dylan Crews to second base, The call for his replacement would begin.

I agree with you. I haven't seen all of the games, but I have seen Texas attempt 3 sacrifice bunts, and every one of them was done to perfection. I don't think LSU had 3 successful sacrifices all year.
It is basic winning baseball, especially when you have good pitching. PM forgot basic fundamental baseball in his last years at LSU.
