It's the poor throws to open receivers that are giving me doubts.

I have a few Auburn friends who voiced their disappointment in Nix prior to the game. They talked about his decision making and accuracy.
After watching him live Saturday I would use those two exact things to discuss how terrible he looks.

He’s young, he’ll get better, and it wasn’t exactly an easy environment for him. But he does suck right now and I don’t think it’s debatable.

If we're talking about comparing him against all QBs in college football right now, then yes, I would agree that he's a below average QB. Definitely wouldn't say he "sucks" though. Completed 75% of his passes against Mississippi State for 300+ yards. Sure, MSU isn't good, but I remember not too long ago when LSU fans would've been thrilled for their QB to put up those stats against anyone, let alone an SEC opponent.

However, if we're talking about his performance in the context of being a true freshman in the SEC, I would say he's been pretty solid. The point of my OP was that LSU's defense is that good. Not that he's that bad. He made some bad throws, but some of that was because of coverages and pressure.

Stats are one thing. Watching him play is totally different.

The “only a freshman” stuff is not valid when so many guys come in and do well as freshmen these days.

Yeah he sucked saturday, but was better in his decision making than he was at UF just a few weeks ago. He is going to be a great QB.

Meh. The guys like Trevor Lawrence and Tua who come in and light the world on fire get all of the press. We never hear about all the true freshman QBs around the country who just do OK.

I can promise you that for every true freshman QB who can immediately perform like Trevor Lawrence, there are five others that can't.

ETA: LINK

3 weeks into the season, there were only 9 true freshman starting QBs (out of 120+ teams). And of those 9, only a few were playing "above their age."

All the other true freshmen out there are backups, and not ready to be starters.

If he's our biggest problem down the line, I like our chances of winning championships.

How is this even remotely relevant?

The guy got 30+ of his yards against LSU on a pass he was trying to throw out of bounds.

You either have accuracy or you dont. There were some throws where he was not being pressured and the receiver was wide open, but he was wildly inaccurate. If you cant make a simple throw like that, then you are always going to have that issue.

To me "great" means All-SEC or future NFL player and he is neither. In fact I predict he will eventually be benched and possibly transfer out unless being on the Auburn team is more important to him than playing.

Because if LSU had a true freshman QB who has performed like Nix has this year, they'd probably just say that he's young and has had to play some really tough defenses.

They wouldn't say that he sucks. But then again, this is The Rant.

ok.

Accuracy, like everything, is something that can be practiced and improved upon. Otherwise, Joe Burrow would still be completing in the mid 50s this season.

If he were more accurate we would've had 2 pick 6s. He was incredibly inaccurate even when he had time.

It’s Auburn’s fault that they are starting a true Freshman QB in the SEC.

Look at it this way. If you were coaching a team would you want him as your quarterback?

Against 4 unranked opponents he is 59/91 (65%) 7 TD's O INT
Against 4 ranked opponents he is 51/113 (45%) 5 TD's 6 INTs

Isn't it possible that Kent State, Arkansas, Tulane and Mississippi State made him look better than he is?

So Nix is good except for when he plays against a good defense?

Actually watch him play. He is awful.

Can he get better? Certainly.

But right now he’s a punter back there
