LSU ranked immediately behind that top four is huge for our program. It shows me that we should have a greater understanding of our relative prestige and historical relevance than we actually do. We underrate ourselves.

We’re a top 10 program all time according to all time final AP top 25 polls. Of course much much higher if you use the polls only from this century. On a 1-5 star scale of prestige LSU is one of the programs rated as 5 star.
Eta link to my thread I made a month ago showing where lsu ranks all-time in AP poll and in the 21st century:

Agreed.
This is definitely the future of CFB.
Take the top 32 or so and create a super league.
Only play each other (non league matchups prohibited), perhaps a 10 game schedule, and then the Top 16 make the playoffs.
The ratings, especially for the 4-round playoff would be insane.
The old bowls could be the playoff sites, if desired.

Ohio St., Michigan and Notre Dame have decades long prestige in the college football world. In the days where there were only a few college football games on TV each Saturday, those three teams were on the most. You could probably say the same thing about Alabama. Their success made them more or less the only "national" team from the South. Plus, you have to look at the fact Michigan (9 million) and Ohio (nearly 12 million) have double and triple the population of Louisiana. Arguably, LSU shouldn't be in the top 5. While always a good program. LSU really wasn't a "national" brand until recently. I think this just goes to so just how strong the LSU brand has grown in the last 20 years.

Half the league makes the playoffs?
That's just stupid.

Notre Dame is also right outside the Chicago metro area.
that metro alone has more than double the population of Louisiana.

No more stupid than March Madness
These 32 teams are the most watched in the nation
Why wouldn’t you want everyone watching?
People are begging for a 8 or 16 team playoff NOW.

That basically killed the regular season for basketball. Is that really what you want for football?
As popular as college football is, I still don't know why so many people want to change it to be like every other sport.

Well, yeah, we're in a thread called, "The most watched college programs"

When did I say I didn't want anyone to watch?
My question to you is, why don't you want anyone to watch the regular season?

That's because people are stupid and don't know what's good for them. People are begging for fentanyl too.

That's what I said, "stupid".
Why would anybody want to make college football more like the NBA?
ETA: Didn't mean to call you stupid, just that's the word I used.

You should. Without him laying the groundwork it simply doesn’t happen.

frick that noise. We can appreciate what he did here without acting as if he single handed lay built a program from scratch. Great coaches have passed through struggling programs and not had future success that LSU has. Did LSU hit a home run on a promising up and coming defensive minded coach from Michigan St? Yes but to say that we never see success otherwise is ridiculous.
