It's going to be more and more about the money moving forward. Dollars, not loyalty, is what makes athletic programs viable.

In baseball, LSU will proudly announce the paid attendance while keeping actual attendance a secret.

They don't care who shows up or stays until the end. It's only about who pays.

Tickets aren't that expensive.

I think the main issue is the students leaving. There’s been multiple student come in and admit that they rather go drink at the bar than be in the stadium at half time.

Why even go?

Do these not how to buy flasks? Not know how to smuggle them in?

I agree with this to an extent. But, IMO kickoffs need to be moved up completely. I know it’s hard with tv slots and tradition, but we have to face reality. Our fans, just take down so much liquor pregame and with long drives back home, I think it may help on both fronts.

How do you know this? Do you have anything to Back this up?

I have several pieces of evidence, but they are admittedly anecdotal.

#1 - My own eyes. In all of the games I watch I never see anything similar to what is seen at Tiger Stadium when they show second half crowd shots.

#2 - Other team's fans (many on this board) comment on this exodus as something unexpected and out of the norm for their school.

#3 - Game announcers comment (embarrassingly, during our games) about how the stands empty out at halftime. The inference from their comments is that it does not happen at other places (if it did, they wouldn't be commenting on it).

Perhaps you have some information that refutes my observations. I would be interested to hear your take.

My solution is highspeed rail to New Orleans that doesn’t leave until 1 hour after the game ends. They could build a station on Nicholson and it could take you right into the CBD.

Would barely put a dent in it.

1. Fans come from all over the state, not just New Orleans.

2. Out of the fans heading east from LSU, probably half go to the north shore of Lake Pontchartrain via I-12.

3. Train leaves an hour after the game? So last night the train would've left at about 12:50 AM and arrived in the CBD about 1:45 AM? I stayed for the end of game and alma mater, and was in BED in Metairie at 1:45 AM.

4. How are you supposed to bring a tailgate set-up on a high-speed train?

Why do people leave early? Because the difference between leaving at the end of the third and the end of the fourth quarters is another 2 hours to get to New Orleans or Lafayette if you wait.

Simply not true

People need to stop making excuses for the people who leave early. It’s embarrassing

What’s embarrassing is some jackass yelling at fans leaving at half time during 8PM kickoff, rain drenched blowout. THAT was one of the most pathetic things I’ve seen in tiger stadium. It was disgusting. Especially when there are kids walking. He’s lucky somebody didn’t lay his arse out. 10/10 he didn’t go to LSU anyway.

I left at the end of the game and was back in Mississippi in a little over 2 hours which included stopping for gas.

But in all honesty y’all have to admit in the past 15+ years BR has seriously almost perfected the traffic situation. I have sat for literally forever years ago vs now it’s insane how quickly it goes. As long as you park on the right side that you’re staying on/going when you leave you’re basically golden except for walking to the car. Now you can even catch a little dude who you can pay to give you a lift to that! Hell we used to jump in a random guys truck bed and ask for a ride to walk-ons haha

Really you think a ticket vs SLU has the same value as UGA or Bama? BTW this is also something every one else does, in fact LSU was late to the party in that

You should have interpreted what I said (cost divided by number of [game] tickets) to mean SEASON tickets.

I don't give rat's arse what LSU charges opposing fans or non-season ticket holders for any given game. It was way easier to sell game tickets on a game by game basis for the average price (again cost divided by number of game tickets.)

However Ole Miss was one of if not THE cheapest priced SEC ticket at $50. Even State is more at $55.
News Flash.

There are hundreds of tickets for sale outside Tiger Stadium before every game.

You can get a decent lower bowl seat for under 20 bucks if you really want to go to the game.

Season Tickets have gotten more expensive and priced out many, but these "Buy before the Game" tickets are still numerous and cheap.

And the piped in music, every school is doing that now.
That doesn't mean that LSU should do it. We have more tradition that most everybody else. Most fans hate it. It's College Football, not the freaking NFL. Let the Band play!

1) Why does it happen?
2) Why does it seem to affect LSU more that virtually every other program?

Reasons for leaving the game early.
1. Traffic
2. To get a drink/go out and party
3. I left at halftime because I had to work Sunday morning.

There may be a few more individual reasons for leaving early.

Since at least the early 2000s they’ve publicly, consistently valued big wallets over loyalty.

BS!!
They are doing what every other major program is doing. There is more premium seating for corporations and big donors but new seating has been added. There's no excuse for the early departures.
The odd thing is that you only get to experience 7 to 8 games per year in Tiger Stadium. Everyone waits expectantly during the off season to experience it. Then it arrives and folks casually discard the experience.
Face it, the tailgate and party have become "the thing".

Ok. Here we go with this discussion for the umpteeth time.

If you want LSU to remain competitive in the SEC and Nationally then Corporate Dollars are necessary. If that means some go home early then it just is the way it is. If Billy Bob fan
was paying the freight and all things were equal then maybe you would have an arguement but in reality this is sports in 2018. Be glad LSU has some giant corporate donors.

In any case, no matter who is sitting in the seats, buying a ticket does not make anyone a prisoner for the duration of a game. The can come and go as they please. No amount of complaining or whining will change anything.

First, stop pretending this is an LSU thing. You'll never fix any problem by faking the cause of it.

Saban complaining about fans leaving early

I would post links to this problem from other schools but if you Google it, the are just too many to choose from. Actually, you'll find that it isn't specific to LSU, or college football, or football... Hell, it isn't even specific to this country.

Soccer fans in the UK do it too
