They are normally graduates of a Louisiana school other than LSU and simply hate the passion and attention LSU gets from the state.
I think you are thinking of one school that feels that way. I didn't graduate from LSU but they were and always will be my favorite team. Everyone I hung out with in college cared more about LSU than our own school's team.

The idea of just picking a college team as “your team” to whom you have no natural connection whatsoever is just goofy as shite.
Only exception I can see to that is one of the service academies. I'm all for everyone picking one of them to root for. Army Navy game is always a blast even if you have no skin in the game.

They became fans after the second time Bama made the championship game. 99% have never been to a Bama game at BDS.
Most are Patriot fans and what ever baseball team makes a multiple world series run
IT's a sad life

Is there anything more pathetic than the guys who were born and raised in LA, still reside in LA, and support the Tide
Very little is this level of pathetic.

It’s easy to cheer for a winner. The are weak. I have much more respect for the guy I saw today with an Arkansas sticker! Most Bama “fans” around here will change to be fans if whatever team is winning besides LSU in a few years (after Bama isn’t competing in the playoffs every year).

I’m a life long LSU fan and enjoy engaging Bama fans in conversation and love the looks on their faces When I tell them I was born in Alabama but regained my senses and became a LSU fan!

Some insecure folks feel they have to pull for and claim to be a fan of a team with a reputation of "winning". They feel they must be able to say "my team won".
Same bunch probably inflate their yearly income, sexual exploits, how may asses they've whupped...etc. etc.
It is pathetic, but I do feel sorry for them.

I think if you didn't graduate from the school, get the hell out.

It's the same people who wore USC gear a decade ago and Miami gear before that. I live outside Austin and see a bunch of big pickups on the roads with Bama stickers.
Also, I was listening to espnu college football talk on Sirius XM over the last few days while driving. There have been several calls from guys in New York and New Jersey. When I heard the host say the next caller is in NY/NJ, I figured maybe they root for Penn State, Ohio State, or Rutgers. Nope, it was Bama, in about three instances. I wonder how many of them were just good old baws from the state of Alabama who moved up there for work.

Back in the day, it seemed about half the crowd would do the "clap....clap.....clap" for a Yankee rally in Municipal Stadium, Kansas City. They really seemed arrogant with no community sense. So, the Kansas City A's moved away and shortly won 3 World Series in a row.

LA natives that root for Alabama can go frick themselves.

These are the worst "fans". I doubt most of them could tell you more than 5 players on the team. They just want the attention that comes with being a contrarian. "Look at me! I go against the grain and root for my state's arch rival. I'm not one of the sheep!"
So you have the attention seeking contrarians and then your standard bandwagon fans who like bama, the Yankees, Lakers, Patriots, etc.
These people wore Miami Starter jackets in the 90s.

At my gym, in NOLA, there’s always a few guys who wear their Bama shirts. I was curious whether they would still wear them after LSU beat them. I went to the gym tonight, and there were zero. One of the guys who always wears a Bama shirt was there, but clad in a plain shirt.

I am originally from Mandeville - all my family is still there. Live in Murfreesboro, TN now and everyone in this damn town is a Bama fan and they are from here. Not Vols and definitely not Vandy. Sidewalk fans one and all.
