The Human Punching Bag - Mr. Joe Alleva

Oh, I know that some of you looooooathe Joe Alleva, for whatever reason you have in your head - maybe it's jealousy - I don't know.
Those of you that have bashed him for the $15MM buyout - why?
Those of you that have bashed him for the leaks - why?
Did it ever, for even the slightest second, cross your minds that he is not responsible for either of those situations, and that maybe he's trying to handle the situation the best way possible?
Now, lets go back to the two questions...
I've seen MANY on here say that Alleva is responsible for the large buyout. The fact is, that buyout was in place before he held the AD role, and was actually increased by the BoD to over $18 MM shortly before he took over.
See Page 8
As for the leaks, there have been numerous people saying that the leaks have come from the coaching staff, and I know of one, that at least has some semblance of legs, that confirms that.
All I'm saying, is that we're already going to lose Les, so let's not compound the issue by attempting to cut off the entire athletic department face to spite ourselves.

All I can say is that a lot of our fan base, specifically the people that post here, are really really stupid.

it's not easy to change coaches who are as high profile as Les. There isn't exactly a how to guide. Plus when you apparently have more leaks than the Titanic it doesn't make the job any easier.

This.
Alleva has done a very good job as AD. Sports are up across the board, revenue is WAY up and surplus donated to academics, facilities are MUCH better for every sport, etc.
We have arguably the most talented player in the country in the 3 major sports, a great softball team, a national champ golf team, a good gymnastics team, etc.
Also, people bitch about ticket prices and LSU's ticket prices are some of the most competitive among major programs.

Alleva is like Miles as far as the fans are concerned.
He will NEVER be given credit for anything positive, and will get blamed for everything negative.
LSU fans really do suck.

Some people don't like anybody in authority. Plain and simple. Alleva has done great things for the university that he does not get credit for.

some made up their mind long ago they hated alleva for whatever reason
if all of this goes according to plan the man should be commended for being pro active and not allowing the ship to completely sink before making a move.

Which shoots down the great man, loves LSU narrative. He looks out for him. I hope this ends the poor, martyr Les narrative.

All the "Alleva has screwed the pooch" people crack me up.
Does anyone honestly think an AD would intentionally leak such a thing?
The writing was on the wall after the Arkansas game, and it doesn't take a "leak" to know Miles was on the hot seat after that game, and pretty much dead in the water after the Ole Miss performance.

Agreed. Not sure where all the Alleva hate is coming from...really does seem way out of proportion. We seem to have indicted him for this whole mess but nobody really had any idea about what's really going on...

Ive been waiting for this thread. So much irrational hatred for joe

Couple questions:
In 2012, didn't Les receive an extension and a buyout augmentation? Who was the AD at that time?
Eta: I was always under the impression that Alleva was responsible for the 2012 raise / extension.

Have another upvote. So many idiots on here, but it's good for business!
Alleva is solid.

I think alleva has done a better job than Skip, but because he was a great baseball coach he could do no wrong.

If he had anything to do with structuring that buyout, HE would be on his way out. I have a feeling that he probably argued against it and was overruled. I read somewhere (Glenn Guilbeau?) that Miles would not answer his phone when Alleva tried calling him during that whole Arkansas flirtation. So his introduction to Miles was basically getting shaken down by him. I like Miles, but that probably was not the best way to start a new working relationship.

Thank god I'm not the only one who feels this way. Factoring in the revenue generation, facility improvement, and donations to the university all improving, Alleva has done a good job but our fans can't see that through their complete ignorance.
I'm beating a dead horse here, but Alleva is playing Chess and I don't know if I can even say our fans are playing checkers. Yes it is VERY risky, but he's making a move to make LSU better. I commend him for doing that when he could very well play it safe. Risk takers are the people who accomplish great things.
