Are you kidding me....the talent gap at OL, DL, LB, and Safety from LSU to Bama is freaking insanely huge. This is based on the game I watched Saturday.

ETA: That is in addition to the gap on the sidelines you speak of.....but that gap exists when Alabama plays anybody.

Look, our position coaches in the offensive and defensive lines and the defensive backfield have not done a good job this year. Our offensive line can't seem to adjust to a stunt or an unusual rush angle. Our defensive line gets beat by just about everyone. We can't contain, we can't tackle well and we take bad defensive angles. Our linebackers are small and seem to react too slowly.

And I know recruiting is a game of probability and a lot of it is just hype. Just because a guy is a 5 star doesn't make him an all American in college. But either we are missing on too many recruits or we are simply not able to teach them to be better. Our defensive line is being outplayed by mediocre teams. Why? Our offensive line play has gotten worse as the season progressed. Why? A couple of years ago we recruited a class full of linebackers. Only one of those is playing any meaningful minutes. With the weak linebacker play we have seen, why can't someone else see the field? Did our coaches recruit so poorly?

Miles fixed the offense, finally. Now the defense needs improvement. What will he do?

Oh yea bc Loston and Barrow constantly getting thru over and around is the coaches fault

The coaches recruited them, didn't they?

They haven't just gotten run over by Alabama this year, either.

aban is now 5-3 against Les Miles.

It's not like Saban has mopped the floor with Miles.
He's well on his way. I'd wager that if Miles and Saban stayed at their respective schools for say, 10 more years (not likely I know) Saban would win another 7-8 more.

4 crystal balls versus 1. So we can go four times better.

When Martin, Loston, Welter, and Anthony Johnson are on the field, the gap is on the field.

Because they do not beat the guy in front of them, it's nothing to do with coaching.

Why do we have position coaches? Is there such a thing as technique. Or are they just incorrigible?

Freak was projected as 1st rd pick by most accounts.

%^$#@ this is dumb. Bama's line O-line was having all sorts of problems earlier in the season. VT was all over them. Now all of a sudden they're unstoppable talent monsters?

They got better because they received good and consistent coaching throughout the year. It's not just "hey, there's your guy, beat him." It's learning proper hand placement and footwork to beat him. It's learning his tendencies through watching tape so you can try to be a step ahead of him. It's learning about the stunts and disguised fronts that you're going to see and how to recognize who is really your man and where he's going to be. It's learning how to pull properly and where you should be on the first and second levels on run plays.

This is . . . coached, it's not just raw talent. It's why our really talented O-line recruits lay eggs against schools without anything close to an equivalent level of talent on the defensive side of the ball. Because they don't know what the frick they are doing because they're apparently being coached by a moron who thinks, like you, that you just gotta go out there and beat the guy across from you and that's all there is to the game of football.

Apart from the profanity, this is very good post.

It's the lack of talent to beat Ole Miss and UGA that hurts worse though.

UGA at full strength would have run the table in the SEC East and give Bama all they could handle in the SECCG --- they had significant injuries out for the season starting at the point they played LSU. No talent gap there.

As far as LSU vs. Bama talent level ---- Bama has had #1 recruiting classes back to back to back --- LSU has been top 10 to top 5 --- so, yes a bit of a gap --- as is the case with EVERY other team vs. Bama. But talent-wise nobody is closer to Bama than LSU, regardless of what that gap may be.

Think for just a minute whether there would be any talent gap had Mingo, Minter, Reid, and a couple more underclassmen on Defense had returned?

If LSU finishes the season strong and signs the lion's share of what's left on the recruiting board... next year, the year after that and so on -- LSU will be in the SEC championship and national championship discussion.

What's weird is that chavis's philosophy has worked pretty well against Bama. This is the first game we have let them put up real points. It's a talent gap. This year

I keep telling the Rantards the answer to this puzzle is the loss of all those juniors last year is killing the program and we were not just able to reload. We are rebuilding now. Consider Bama game with:

Michael Brockers
Bennie Logan
Kevin Minter
Tharold Simon
Tyrann Mathieu
Barkevious Mingo
Sam Montgomery

All of these guys had eligibility into this season. Bama has managed to retain most of their premier talent and we have not. If we are seriously going to compete at the elite level then we have got to figure out how to do that. Saturday night we obviously had the talent to compete but not to endure. We just got plain ole wore out in the second half due to lack of depth...

Truth be known this Bama team is a shadow of that 2011 team that beat us in the NC game and so is this LSU team. But the difference is that this 2013 team could be better than the 2011 team if we had retained that talent and depth...

When all is said and done, yeah Bama is more talented this year. But that's not to say we couldn't beat them, it was just not our night, and the team was just deflated by the 4th Quarter...

there is a huge talent gap on the OL and insanely large talent gap at TE (OJ Howard). Also huge talent on DL, extra insanely large talent gap at LB and safety, and talent gap at CB. Other than that we match up well.

Dude. None of the starters on defense are super talented. I keep hearing how they are talented but inexperienced.

bullshite

Even inexperienced talented players make brilliant plays every now and then. I haven't seen one GREAT defensive play all season.

We have an inexperienced AND untalented defense.
