Many journalists and broadcasters have been amplifying or airing these Polls without regard to basic journalistic ethics and without informing the public that those Polls lack a scientific, accurate, or even real basis.
The FCC takes these issues seriously. Broadcasters are prohibited by the terms of their federal licenses from engaging in News Distortion or promoting Broadcast Hoaxes. It is important that broadcasters comply with their public interest obligations. After all, the country benefits greatly when Americans can trust and rely on the media to report the news fairly and accurately.
Broadcasters are advised to avoid engaging in News Distortions or running Broadcast Hoaxes by airing Polls that would violate their regulatory obligations. If broadcasters believe they should provide their viewers with additional context and information about Polls they have covered, they can now take those actions consistent with FCC regulations.

So is the FCC going to establish itself as the Ministry of Truth and decide what is in fact accurate and acceptable to report?

entirely Fake Polls and Suppression Polls
How does the FCC define this, exactly?
What diligence is the FCC requiring? I don't see how you can require them to become polling experts prior to accurately reporting what a particular poll says. Hell, lots of these polls have proprietary information and the underlying data/analytics aren't released.

Looks to me like the FCC is just doing their job.

They had a poll come out yesterday, admitting it was all fake. Thats election interference. And it was published, so those guys have grounds for damages etc

Fox News better watch out. Without fake polls, Jessica Tarlov would have nothing to say.

Try reading past the thread title, Jimmy. If you do this instead of simply rushing in to shill the topic you will find that the answer to your question is contained within the body of the thread itself.

Fox News’ own polls are fake as frick.
I hope they get burned.
I hope they get burned.

Great news.
Of course, most of the polls are always skewed left by several points and only correct as the days close before the election. I almost would rather not even have them.
For the fortunate few who Polimarket, I guess there is a way to strike back.
PS - BoarEd working overtime lately. Tell Chicken to give you a bonus for all the effort you've put in to save our Country on this forum.

I did. I read all of this

During this election season, there has been a significant surge in entirely Fake Polls and Suppression Polls designed to do nothing more than interfere with the regular functioning of the electoral process and alter the normal patterns of voter turnout and enthusiasm.

After reading, I did the rational thing and made my post.
The words I quoted don't include a definition of the specific terms I asked to be defined.

Burned by what? Certainly not the FCC

Ok, well once again I am not going to give you reading comprehension classes in this thread. This thread serves to inform folks that the FCC has put the media on notice for promoting fake polls. If folks want to discuss that, that's cool, but I'm not interested in getting into a stupid discussion over the meaning of the term "fake polls" when they tell you explicitly right there in what you just quoted what that is.

Do people still bet money on election outcomes? It must have been Bush vs. Gore in 2000 when a young man I knew called me to ask who would win because he knew I kept up with politics and he didn't trust the polls and he wanted to bet $5K on the race. I told him it's probably illegal. He said it was a gambling site in England.

Good post. The government should not be making a determination of what is truthful. We laughed at the whole Nina Jankowicz thing.

That's literally the heart of the discussion.

They don't.
For example, what methodology makes a poll "fake" exactly?
Is it a matter of quality of data? Analytics?

Umm.... we thought you folks would be slamming your fists on the table with the revelation that a polling outfit was faking their information. And the fake information could be used as suppression of voter enthusiasm.
Are you drones very concerned about a "danger to democracy" or not? Is that a day by day thing or something?

Please define the difference between doing their job and Ministry of Truth? I'll hang up and listen.
Please tell us what you feel the FCC's responsibility is as an agency?
