So is the FCC going to establish itself as the Ministry of Truth and decide what is in fact accurate and acceptable to report?
The difference is that the FCC only has power to act if it can show that the broadcaster deliberately "distorted" the news and/or knowingly engaged in a hox. The FCC cannot (or perhaps, should not) judge a news report for falsity on its face - it needs something showing a deliberate intent to perpetuate a fraud.
You can view this announcement by the FCC as 1. an attempt to chill what it otherwise acceptable reporting by broadcasters, or 2. a friendly reminder of what the FCC's regulatory role entails.

The dang OP has it in the FCC actual words..."advise" and yes I too think that means to chill any use of corrupted false data. Free speech away folks in the media. Just don't knowingly promote lies and false information or go to cable and do that

The FCC Puts Broadcasters on Notice Over Polls that show the Democrat winning or disapprove of Trump.

SIAP
I'm pretty sure the reach of the FCC doesn't extend to the cable news networks. This would be the 3 letter networks ABC, CBS, NBC. Boomer news. And terrestrial radio broadcasters.

as a fellow survey/experimental design statistician I can tell you that the political pollers/statisticians are widely regarded as one of the lowest of the low amongst the statistical field, but also the ones that can make the most money
only thing lower is those folks that do sociological surveys.
Idk though maybe I have a bias against the soft sciences

Carr is such a hapless toadie who fails at sounding authoritative and strong. He’s one of Trump’s more obvious but

Thus the term 'push polls'
I think many Americans got a clearer picture of polling after the 2016 election. In college we learned with statistics "if you torture them enough you can get them to say whatever you want".

Some pussies on this website don't know how to fricking win.
To me.. it's win at all costs and this helps
Not sure what that means. I was just pointing out what this is aimed at. Not sure who benefits when polls lie. But the poll that was fake, was showing dems as favorites.

Yes.
Do you think ABCCBSNBCCNNMSNOW and a host of print media do this?

Thats exactly what those folks do. I mean a well trained statisician can twist and contort things into sonething believable by a normal person whereas another statistician can look at it and produce something similar but to the opposite conclusion. Neither methods would be considered "wrong"
Its as much science as it is art. There is no perfect decision maker that can determine if one model or estimate is better than another hence the Box quote: all models are wrong but some are useful.
The methodologies for collecting the data and analyzing the data are pretty standardized, but when dealing with data collected from people things get messy real fast and questions can be worded to generate answers the survey folks want.
Even reviews of the methodologies can be complicated because like lawyers...you can put statisticians in a room and get a different response from each of them. shite sometimes you can get different answers from the same person with a work day
