IIRC he has an 0-8 game from 3 in a loss. And two more where he went 0-5.

Yea, that isn’t good, but it’s a big chunk of the sample size you are talking about.

So he's still 2 for 15 in the other 6 games, that's bad

If Days is not scoring he needs to be on the bench replaced by Gaines. He is too much of a defensive liability. If his offense cannot overcome his normal lack of defense he shouldn't be on the floor. At least Gaines gives this team top notch defensive play and can get in the high single digits on second chance opportunities, steals and scrums. But if Days' offensive game is on play him as much as possible.

Its not just if his 1st shot falls. If he gets beat on defense or has a turnover in the first few minutes its over for him. I’ve said it for a couple years, I’ve never seen a player just completely shut down like he does if a few things don’t go his way.

He never has just an ok game. He is either very good or the worst player on the court.

With that being said Watford is the key for LSU in the tournament. If he plays his game inside and continues to not pretend he’s a point guard LSU should go a long way.

Perhaps maybe more than any player on this team (and any player in the last several years) he confidence goes from one extreme end of the spectrum to the other. If he makes his first three you can almost guarantee the next one is going to go down as well. And if he is feeling it he is a guy that can literally give 8 points and 5 rebounds in a span of 5 minutes. But when he is off his body language looks like a guy who is completely defeated. Say what you want about Watford, Smart and Thomas, but those guys NEVER lose confidence in themselves. Even to their team's detriment at times. They don't care if they have missed 6 shots in row. They fully believe the 7th is going to go down and they are on the cusp of a career night. Days has to get a little bit of that in his psyche

You usually have a good sense of where Days is about 5 minutes into the game.

This is the perfect explanation. In looser terms, Days is a headcase. It's all about confidence with him. You'll know where his head is after his first few shots.......

I’m not saying he’s been good, more question the overall impact.

This is his game log sorted by 3PA

Look at the bottom 4 all losses. Those happen to be the least amount of 3’s he has taken in a game. So yea,

0-7 sounds terrible

But how is 0-1 & 0-2 affecting a game

It’s an opportunity thing & the losing pattern leans towards involvement vs actual bad play

Any team that has a quick/ smaller center like Bama will give Darius problems. Some teams have it, some don't.

I agree with this. Teams that have quickness are trouble for Days on the offensive and defensive end. They are also trouble for Watford on the defensive end but Watford is skilled enough on the offensive end to overcome quick defenders.

When you lose 25% of your scoring you usually lose the game.
When Days isn't hitting it frees up another defender to collapse on Thomas and Watford.

The question is, will he accept the responsibility and take it upon himself to be the difference maker, or is he going to run away and hide? Tourney time, young man! Step! the! BLEEP! UP!

Another factor is he will get in foul trouble a lot of the time when he’s off which just compounds the issue. If he off but doesn’t foul we can still stay in the game because of his rebounding

What's even crazier is that in games where Days makes 1 (one) single 3 pointer, we are undefeated (with the exception of TT where he left with an injury).

Days 3P/3PA in Losses

0-5, L to St. Louis
0-1, L to Florida
0-2, L to Bama
0-1, L to UK
1-2, L to TT (but left with injury)
0-5, L to UGA
0-8, L to Arkansas
0-3, L to Bama in SECT

In every single win, he made at least 1 3 pointer.

The basket gets a whole lot bigger once you see one go in.

It’s mind-boggling that WW doesn’t get him an easy bucket to start the game, whether it’s down low or at the free throw line.

It’s just like a QB, an easy throw to start the game can lay the foundation for a solid outing.

When Darius isn't scoring Smart & Thomas start forcing things and making some poor decisions.

We can't dismiss the complete lack of bench scoring we have. When Days is off, who else is going to even combine to give us 15 points?

LeBlanc, Gaines, Wilkinson may combine for 8 to 10 on a great day.

When Days isn't scoring someone else is forced to make up the shots.
Which leads to forced shots, misses, and probably another loss.

When days isn’t scoring it usually means he’s not even getting the ball

He doesn’t create his own shots. He almost solely relies on smart & Thomas to set him up. And they don’t exactly like to pass the ball all the time. Well, Thomas, never.

Wade talked about using Days with Watford in the 2 man high low game after the tourney seeding came out. He wants to get Days some touches inside to get him involved early. This is going to work for us and is just common sense. You can’t just expect someone like Days to wait around 10-12 minutes for a touch then hit 4-4 from 3 the rest of the way.
