Didn’t they put Ohio St in over Penn St a few years ago? And if I remember correctly Penn St won the head to head. Ohio St. just had a better record. The committee made it clear there are no standards when it comes to the playoffs.

That is too simplistic and leaves too much room for maneuvering. In essence the committee can decide each year which teams are the 4 best by using whatever metric they choose in a given year, without telling anyone what those metrics are until after the decision is made.
No one would accept this with the interest rate of their mortgage, allowing the lender to switch around the rate at will for whatever reason they want to and only letting you know after the fact because the committee felt they were the best.
There is NO WAY to accurately predict the 4 best teams. Any team can beat any other team on any given day so the results of the CFP will never be the 4 best teams; the results will be the 4 teams the committee “selected” or “invited” to the CFP.

If ND joined the ACC their schedule would overall be much easier outside Clemson. Pushing them in a conference is the opposite of what you want.
[/quote]
Not really bc their big opponents every year USC, Stanford, etc have to play 8 conference games that essentially are more important than the ND game...but for ND those 2-3 games vs above average P5 schools are their big games.

This. The whole process is really vulnerable to corruption. This is why process and criteria are agreed to in writing. If this committee of 13 has absolute power why the heck doesn't LSU have someone on that committee?

It would bring order to chaos. Gone would the day of scheduling Kent state or UAB. Play your 8 conference games and the other games would be teams from other power 5 conferences. It would be more like the NFL system.

Yes but that was the old committee, this committee has many new members.

That is exactly what they do.

The problem is most of you seem to think the “best” teams is some kind of provable scientific fact, rather than just an opinion, which it is.

Totally agree ND doesn’t deserve special Tx.
The only thing keeping ND out of a conference is the sweet heart deal they have with the NCAA. Why would they ever dream of splitting Play off money with 10-12 other teams when they can keep it all for themselves.

If both Georgia and Notre Dame get in, I think the other 3 conferences who aren't in will finally have to make a push for 8 teams with conference champs automatically qualifying.

8 team playoff would ruin college football

That ship sailed last year.

Ohio State has an impossibly bad loss...stop with the recency bias. The entire season matters.
ND played a hard enough schedule to warrant inclusion, given that they are undefeated.
1. Bama
2. Clemson
3. ND
4. OU

A realist gets 50% down votes... wow. Choosing the best four from bama, clemson, notre dame, OU, ohio state AND georgia is certainly a challenge BUT putting bama, clemson and notre dame in the CFP should be automatic.

Ohio State got blown out by Purdue and almost lost to Maryland. They don’t deserve to be in the final 4. Notre Dame hasn’t been beaten...

I agree ND is bullshite. They will get embarrassed by whoever they play their first game
Posted on 12/2/18 at 11:12 am to wryder1
Actually, Ohio state was the first non champ to get a bid to the playoffs. Not Bama.
