Even when I was in college I was annoyed AND embarrassed by how absolutely crass and stupid college kids could be. Believe me, I partied, got laid and had a great time. But I never quite understood the attraction of making a buffoonish spectacle out of yourself.

I'm an alumnus too and I would never, on any occasion, try to ban the student section from TS. If that happened, I'd never give another dime to LSU You guys have really fallen hard. This is ridiculous.
As opposed to the poster I initially quoted who suggested that the majority of the stadium stay home and people at home mute their televisions. Yeah, I'm overboard. :rolleyes

I obviously don't believe students should be banned.
I do think (and having been a student for the past 4 seasons) that when they chant STTDB it just made me want to duck my head.
A Geaux Tigers was much more exciting.
It won't stop, and I understand the whole being drunk thing, but damn, we are better than that.

Apparently not.

I'm gonna say it: I'd rather have the stadium full of students yelling about fellatio than half empty of fans leaving early to beat traffic.

BUT BUT BUT i dont want students yelling obscene things
WE ARE BETTER THAN THIS

If you guys are offended I'll gladly take your season tickets off your hands. At least students screaming as loud as possible is sort of hard to understand sometimes. Should we also ban people from saying frick to themselves 700x a game???

Not about being offended
About how we sold our souls to networks and how they can dictate how we act at games

Yeah, it was probably just as loud and clear in the 70's as it is now. I didn't hear it in the 90's and that must have been why it was such a bad decade.
Funny because I sure did. You act as if this generation is the first to use profanity.

There you go. It's never the student section leaving early. Maybe we need more offended fans to stay home.

Hold on, did I read this right?
Changing the culture around LSU fandom because LSU is now constantly on the national change..... isn't that selling our souls to networks and letting them dictate how we act at games?
In 7 pages it's hard to argue that the same behavior and culture surrounding LSU games now is ANY different than it was before. So we should all the sudden change our rowdy, obnoxious behavior to avoid selling our souls to networks?
Hypocrisy over the STTDB chant continues.

Our fanbase continues to seem embarrassed by itself. We've always been this way. We've burst onto the national scene and have gotten self-conscious about ourselves. We're loud, passionate, great cooks, and obnoxious at night in TS. That will lead to youngin's saying some stupid shite, but it's who we are.

Difference between rowdy and the ability to clearly hear profanity, which is against FCC regulations, during football games. Networks are not huge fans of paying that fine.

I'm all for profanity, I plan on teaching my boys good solid cussing as soon as they can talk.
I can also see the difference between chants of bullshite, a-hole or a drunken curse match and screaming about sucking a Tiger dick.
Like the difference between count and bitch. Both are curse words, one is a helluva lot more profane. It isn't that hard to see a line is being crossed.

Oh, please keep the FCC joke out of this. The networks are glad to pay that fine right now. College football and the SEC are as popular as they've ever been.
There's a reason ESPN/CBS/Fox/ABC literally fight every year for the right to broadcast regular season and bowl games. And there are snippets of profanity in any manner in almost every single game. Networks are making a shite load on football right now and couldn't care less about some stupid FCC fine. It's a drop in the bucket.

The entire student section didn't chant anything remotely comparable to STTDB in unison during the 90's. Sorry.
But with that being said at no point did I say this is the first generation to use profanity. I've stated multiple times people are going to say whatever they want. But this generation through the organization/loudness has taken it to a new level that reflects poorly on the University and the fan base.

They have this wonderful invention called time delay. You may have heard about it after Janet Jackson gave the world a look at her nipple.
I see it used quite often in sporting events. If you've been wondering why your television randomly mutes while watching say, an NBA game, it's because someone said a naughty word too loud and the networks had to bleep it out.

On look this stupid chant again. Bunch of morons in this thread. I was in the student section all the time as a kid and they were never as trashy as the last few years. Pathetic.
