But with that being said at no point did I say this is the first generation to use profanity. I've stated multiple times people are going to say whatever they want. But this generation through the organization/loudness has taken it to a new level that reflects poorly on the University and the fan base.

OK. Your revisionist memories are pretty comical. Good luck with your fight to get Tiger Stadium a PG13 or G rating. I like how you conveniently ignore the poster who said they were chanting vulgarities way back in the 70's.

I bet the old farts in the 70's were telling people how they never heard things like this in the 50's.

"Rat sh.t, cat sh.t, p.ssy smells well
Co.ksucker, motherf..ker, Tigers give 'em hell!"

"Born in the backwoods, raised by a bear
Got two sets of teeth, and three coats of hair,
Got 10 pound balls and a twelve foot rod
I'm a mean motherf..ker, I'm a Tiger, by God!"

I was in the student section all the time as a kid and they were never as trashy as the last few years. Pathetic

Man, I guess you just missed those games. We're so trashy! Our parents and the preceding generations of Tiger fans were so trashy!

Everything they do is orchestrated, everything they do has got some kind of hand motion and yelling… a lot of it’s profane and maybe that bums some folks out but I thought it was awesome. And, let me make one thing clear, I got asked this a lot by my Madison people. Madison Wisconsin, you guys know my affinity for you.

I'm not fighting anything. You can talk about sucking dicks all you want if that's your thing. Knock yourself out. I'm saying that thousands of people doing it at once reflects poorly on the school and the fan base, and there is no denying that it does.

As for the older chants, I simply do not believe that the student section who has never even been capable of clapping in rhythm with a slow beating drum when the band takes the field was capable of saying all of these things...
quote:

"Rat sh.t, cat sh.t, p.ssy smells well
Co.ksucker, motherf..ker, Tigers give 'em hell!"

"Born in the backwoods, raised by a bear
Got two sets of teeth, and three coats of hair,
Got 10 pound balls and a twelve foot rod
I'm a mean motherf..ker, I'm a Tiger, by God!"

in a manner so loud and unified that everyone in the stadium and watching on TV could clearly hear and understand it.

But if they managed to pull it off then it was just as trashy then as it would be now.

So, again, it makes it bad because more people see it? Was it right before anybody on tv heard it?

Again, for the tenth time, STTDB is the result of a culture that was created decades ago around this school's athletics. It's a stupid chant. But, because it's on tv and heard by more people makes it no different than those chants yelled in the 70's. Same concept, same vulgarity.

But, we're all the sudden trashy because students can now do it in unison.

Oh the butthurt. Proud graduate of E.J. Ourso College of Business.

Typical stuck-up pussy. As soon as you can't come up with a good answer to my responses, I'm trashy.

I love our fanbase. Never ceases to amaze me.

I don't believe you moron. You have zero self respect for yourself or LSU. Yeh I'm guessing high school dropout. All you have retorted with in this thread is boom.

My problem isn't so much that the chant is "profane" or "offensive". It's mainly that it's stupid and immature . . . even for 18 and 20 year old college kids in the Southeast. It's not clever. It doesn't intimidate the other team or its fans, and it doesn't fire up our players. It's just a bunch of drunk kids making asses of themselves and being self-congratulatory at the same time.

I've said "boom" twice in 20+ posts in this thread and have said a ton in those posts. You obviously just read this thread the last page and a half.

Contrary to your belief, I did graduate high school.

Graduated from LSU as well. Disagree with me all you want about STTDB, your personal attacks are just conformation you have nothing better to say.

And they're hilarious entertainment. Please continue

No it makes it bad because several thousand people are doing it, making it easier for everyone to hear it. I'm not talking about random smaller groups of people chanting whatever profanity they want, cussing the other team, cussing the refs, cussing Miles, etc. I'm not talking about the people sitting around you getting upset. I'm talking about it reaching a point that it becomes an embarrassment to the school and fan base.

And the "boom" bit was comical. "I condone thousands of people screaming about sucking dicks!! BOOM!!"

I've agreed with this the whole time. Lots of self-congratulatory thoughts as well. We can barely get the stadium to clap in unison during pregame. A synchronized chant is quite the accomplishment.

Please go find where I said this. I laugh at the older alumni who complain about a culture they created. Never said STTDB was cool or original. I've said numerous times it is stupid.

How many ages have you verified in this thread?

And to set one of your errors straight from earlier in the thread. The gameday net isn't from LSU fans "throwing whiskey bottles". It was one golf ball, from one guy (a student), in 1996. He was standing about 4 or 5 people in front of me...I saw the whole thing.

ETA: Simple question, does STTDB reflect poorly on LSU or not?

IMO the complaining actually encourages this behavior.

Sad, but true. We aren't dealing with genius level students here.

If you gotta do something, make it something beyond a third grade level put down. What's next,"yo momma?"

Not butt hurt. Simply laugh and point out the hypocrisy of the finger-pointing at the current student body.

I got the details wrong. I stand corrected. The true story still provides evidence that our fanbase as always been this way and it is nothing new.

You guys can sit there and act like I'm condoning STTDB, all the while ignoring my stance that it is stupid and unoriginal. Yet, you haven't really addressed my observation that this all surrounds around a tradition of behavior that goes back decades. Does it make it right? Eh, probably not.

But, just because the current student body is able to synchronize a chant loud enough to be heard on TV doesn't make them any worse than the students 30 years ago who couldn't.
