Former coach, undefeated season...the list goes on and on. If the boys from the bayou couldn't get up for this one...they lack intestinal fortitude, and LSU has bigger problems than QB management.
right, so says the Alabama team that got beat by 35 to Utah in the Sugar bowl in 08.
No way Utah is a better team or program than Alabama...but Utah wanted to be there, Alabama didn't.
Why didn't alabama want to play Utah?

It is not only about us and being upset about losing.
In THIS system, a rematch is a disadvantage.
In THIS system, a rematch is a disadvantage.

Alabama did not deserve to be in the game, but, other than LSU, frankly, who did?
They were both clearly the two best teams. But, the two best teams don't always play for the championship. Especially when they are in the same division.
Prior to the game I was of the opinion of why even play the game. What did LSU have to prove? Nothing...cuz they beat Bama already. If this is the matchup we have then just name LSU National Champs now.
However, this does not mean the team couldn't at least show up.

The big Elephant in the room
LSU didn't want to play Alabama again.
It wasn't fair that they should have had to, and many talking heads and college fans I know said as much repeatedly... Not many people liked the rematch.
I know I know, its all over now.
I just think that's the real underlying issue of such a lopsided game.
Alabama wanted to play LSU badly, and LSU would have much preferred to play Alabama next year in BR.
Alabama didn't recieve any real consequences from losing at home to a division rival that went undefeated.
LSU coaches and players could never admit these feelings in the public eye(as if they had a choice anyways), but if I am an LSU player, why would I want to play Alabama a 2nd time for all the marbles?
LSU played in the SEC championship game (an extra game), While Alabama sat at home fueling their fire.
Alabama won fairly, but the game should have never been played...
When I am old, that's my story

The BCS is designed to get #1 and #2 in the title game. It did that.
Nevermind that without ESPN beating "The best Loss" bama never stays at #2.
WTF is a best loss?

and go undefeated for the first time in school histor
really?
i just went and counted and while it would have been the first undefeated season since 1958, it would hardly have been the first in school history. More like the 8th.
I thought football history was a prerequisite to Bama fandom.

So, you're saying that a UA team that was a facemask call away from winning the SEC and playing for the 'ship, who finds themselves playing Utah...is comparable to this years LSU team which had a chance to go undefeated for the first time in school history, beat Nick $abun 3 times in a row, and take home the title?
Wow.
Wow.

Yeah, that's what they said on Nov 5th in T-Town.
Apparently that stuff only sticks to wall for a while.

IF LSU loses to UGA, you guys get left out
Ok...that's the reality...LSU beat you and then essentially helped into the game that only fueled your motivation from the loss while LSU is going "Wait, no, we eliminated them on the 5t?"
It loses sight of the fact that teams do what they need to do to win. When you are that close, you do whatever you need to in order to get it done. If you don't, you don't deserve to win.

Beating Alabama didn't serve as a punishment to Alabama. That's a huge blow to LSU from the word go. If you can see that reality, then no argument will be reasonable in your way of thinking.
Don't get me wrong, I don't think it's completely fair how bama got there, but it happened, and they, in most peoples opinion were at least the second best team.
It sucks that we had to be guinea pig in the current bcs system, but it is what it is.
Now to think that they simply didn't have the competitive desire to win a championship no matter the situation is an insult to our team.

Sorry about that. Since '58.

The camps Dear Leader sends us to only train us about UA lore. Do you want to know what size shoe the Left Guard on the '68 team wore?

Where in the rules does it say that teams only play each other once? And why, with all of this venom, would it make someone quit? It's like quitting at the 25th mile of a marathon when you realize they changed the route and you have to climb the hill twice. It's just not what happens.

No I am talking about the mental outlook going into the game.
Sure LSU had a lot to play for, obviously.
Alabama played with house money...
In 2006, LSU was the best team in the country, and had they had the chance to beat UF in MNC, I think that game would have ended in LSU's favor.
That year LSU lost a close game in Gainville..had a few "self inflicted" turnovers etc...

So you are basically saying your team had to lose a game no matter what to win. That's what Alabama did. If you want to start with the "if's" and use that for the basis of the elephant in the room argument, it's not an argument. We can play if's all day on both sides... It loses sight of the fact that teams do what they need to do to win. When you are that close, you do whatever you need to in order to get it done. If you don't, you don't deserve to win.
Just admit that you were given a mulligan and it paid off for the tide at LSU's expense.
At the very least the rematch should have been held in Tiger Stadium!
"Oh, that would be unfair"

But it really wasnt that lopsided until we just made no effort to increase our offensive threat.
it was 9-0 mid way in the third.
That is the agonizing thing about it. A TD anywhere in the first 45 minutes and it is game on.

Because you have a sense of pride and want to play the best?
But they beat them already. LSU should want to play for the NC and shouldn't care too much about who they have to play but there is no particular reason why they would want to defeat someone twice. They proved they could already.

Records show that Oklahoma State was "the best." They were much more qualified (based on what they accomplished during the season)for the BCSNC game than Alabama. Simple logic.
