The best and worst LSU teams since 1960

What's amazing is that in spite of the overall greatness of 2019, it wasn't the most dominant LSU team. The next four on the list-- 1969, 2011, 2003, and 2006-- all featured punishing defenses as well as excellent offenses.
There were 5 1960's teams that allowed fewer than 100 pts/season. The 1962 group only allowed a meagre 34 ticks-- possibly the reason, along with the Cotton Bowl Championship over previously #1 Texas, that Sagarin rated LSU as National Champions of 1962 (a title not acknowledged by any other poll, nor by the University).

No doubt the biggest one year discrepancy in program if not national history. 2020 did play an all-sec schedule without the benefit of cupcakes or their starting QB. 2021 felt like a much worse team imo.
I was surprised how close 1969 was in margin of victory to 2019. Nationally, they were the 9th best scoring team and 3rd best in points allowed. Considering the era, you could argue they were statistically the more complete team.

Most shocking takeaway, is the statistically best team allowed more ppg than the fourth worst team. And there was only a 4.4 avg points per game nationally between 2019 and 1990.

If could go back just 2 years the 58 &59 teams think gave up some ridiculous low yards and points scored. Would like to see although obviously can’t compare the eras.
