If you check this morning’s newspaper all you will see about LSU’s opening night is an article written by Scott Rabalais. The article is ok at best and you can see that 90% was written pregame. There is just a couple of sentences giving information on what took place during the contest. The score is listed with the rest of the SEC scores, but The Advocate didn’t even the box score from last night game let alone any details about the game. Yes they did print to go to there website for full coverage. The newspaper that was noted nationally for its sports section sure has gone down.
If I wanted to go to a website I would not subscribe to the paper.

The Advocate sucks. Might as well cancel your paper.

Cancel it even if you still want it. Idiots will likely keep throwing it at your door anyways.

Because of the finish time not because they didn't want to provide the info.

10:20 isn't too late in 2020. They're just a lazy, bad newspaper now.

Never have had the advocate and they insist on throwing the Saturday neighborhood paper in my yard on Sundays. They were dead when they started making you pay for the website.

For some reason an Advocate is thrown in my yard every sunday. I made sure a few years ago we weren't paying them for that garbage. We aren't.

It goes out with the trash on Monday.

Paper. Total Boomer thing.

I'm almost a Boomer and I haven't had a "paper" which is yesterday's news delivered tomorrow, in many years.

Technology and this thing called the internet are wonderful things, and just a wee bit more timely.

I’m just curious as to what makes the time different in 2020 than it did in 2003?

Because of the finish time
The Advocate's online article recapping the game which includes quotes by players and Mainieri written by Wilson Alexander shows a "published" time of 10:27 PM.

You'd think that would be early enough to make the paper version for the next day.

A short excerpt from the article:

quote:

In the bottom of the first inning, Doughty felt nervous walking toward the plate. The son of former LSU catcher Richard Doughty and younger brother of junior Braden Doughty, the second baseman from Denham Springs had spent his life watching LSU baseball games. When he had the choice between college and professional baseball last summer, he picked LSU.

Doughty wanted to hit the ball over the second baseman’s head, an approach that has sometimes made him swing early against off-speed pitches. He expected Indiana left-hander Tommy Sommer to throw a fastball in a 1-1 count. Sommer hung a changeup. Doughty crushed it.

“Growing up being an LSU fan, you dream of moments like this,” Doughty said. “As I rounded first base and I realized the ball went over the fence, I don't know what I exactly did. I screamed really loud.”

Doughty was the first player to hit a home run in his first LSU at-bat since Beau Didier in 2009.

Often the online version of local papers is stripped down.

I’ve gone to many, many 7:00 starts and there has full coverage. Apparently they don’t want to pay the printers overtime. It may catch up with in the near future and they will like many other newspapers in the country. Nonexistent

If you’re reading a Rabalais article the best you can expect is an “ok” piece.

Oh the Russian again. You cant seem to understand what people post. It was written in English the post was written about not being the paper like it’s been for many years. Sure the info is available, but for many years it was available in the hard copy.

You and maybe 10 others are the only folks subscribing to the paper. Soon after Al Gore invented the internet, newspapers became stale news compared to websites. Today, newspapers are like Encyclopedias.
