Does anyone understand the pitch selection by Dunn on that bomb?

Albert fouled off I think 5 fastballs in a row from Vietmeier. I’m watching it saying, “Throw him a changeup or a breaking ball dammit!” Even the announcer said something about them continuing to throw him fastballs.

What in the living frick was Dunn thinking? If a pitcher can’t throw a changeup or breaking ball for a strike when he needs to, he shouldn’t be on the mound.

It was like watching a train wreck in slow motion.

Funny thing is, I think the next batter he struck him out on a perfect changeup.

Apparently Albert knew it too as he launched it into space.

Veitmeier can throw fastballs only. The guy had it timed. Fouled off everything until he got the beach ball

Our pitcher couldn’t throw a strike with anything else...that’s what he was thinking. It should have been an indication to do something else...yank him or call something else, but he knew the worst thing that could happen was that the kid would tie the game.

I bet he was more concerned with walking him and having Mendoza up in that spot. The real question is why have a guy in to face the 2 or 3 best left handed hitters on their team who is giving up an average of .396 (someone earlier posted the stat) to lefties? You had the entire roster at your disposal besides Henry and Peterson and that’s the move you made. Also, left Peterson in too long.

But he does have a change and a breaking ball. Apparently Dunn doesn’t know this.

It was like watching a little leaguer calling his own pitches. I don’t think I’ve ever seen something so stupid in all of my years watching baseball.

Maybe Dunn was thinking there's no way Albert thinks I am dumb enough to throw him another fastball.

How a college pitcher at LSU can only have one pitch is somewhat concerning to me, I do so say so myself.

I have a question about Albert's homerun too.

Has it landed yet?

I read that it was spotted by the Space Station last night in low earth orbit.

He quite literally struck out the last guy that inning on a sweet 3-2 changeup the guy was way ahead on.

But nah, let's not throw a changeup after a guy fouls off 5 straight fastballs in a row.

I laughed pretty hard at that too. I bet Skip went down to the rail, pulled Dunn over and said, "if you throw another 3-2 fastball I'm coming down there and kicking your arse."

A lefty would have been ideal in that situation.
Dunn and most college pitchers philosophy is to pitch to contact. They had 10 walks that game, that was the more glaring issue.
A solo shot doesn't hurt you there.

I still don't understand the pitch they threw to Mendoza for the walkoff hit. Unless Fontenot missed his location it was way too fat for a 1/2 count. It should have been off the plate or buried inside to his ankles/feet.

Better question. Furthest hit ball in new box or what?

Deichmann probably still holds that honor.

Better question:

Has Dunn cleaned out his office yet?
