Would have been a perfect double play ball. Please tell me how you can leave the entire side of the infield empty?

The shift is employed at all high levels of baseball because it works, but the exceptions are all anyone wants to discuss.

Jay's playing the percentages just like every manager these days. Just didn’t work out.

There’s no way he puts 3 infielders on the pull side only to call for an outer half pitch that many times in a game.

Until the pitchers can execute the pitch call 100% of the time, we probably need to stop shifting.

Maybe, but we face a shift just as much as we don’t to anyone else, and we get fricked by it on offense all the time too.

Milam/Braswell have made a ton of plays behind 2nd base that no one says shite about.

Nope ….

If Jay would only listen to you he might finally win a national championship.

How many times does it "work" in terms of getting an out on plays that would be base hits, specially for college baseball. I see people say this but nobody has ever posted the actual numbers.

Well why aren’t you coaching college baseball then if you know so much?

My problem with the shift on that play is that it was too extreme. If the shift had Milam playing 10 feet right of the bag instead of left, the right side of the 2nd base bag instead of left, he probably gets that ball.

Jones was holding the runner on, so the gap was just irresistible for the batter. If Milam plays a hair right of the bag (he can still cover the middle) and Jones is shaded to the left a bit, then the gap doesn't appear to be so big and the hitter may not try to go that way. All the hitter had to do was get the ball past the pitcher...

That is a tired response to any discourse on the game.

My opinion is 100% shaped by the result. Jay didn’t have the luxury of knowing what would happen when he made the calls.

That said, I am almost certain he wouldn’t shift if he knew Ack would miss his spot by more than a foot.

It’s not even allowed anymore in the MLB, so definitely not employed at the highest level of baseball.

MLB stopped it and college follows what MLB does. So it will end soon. I personally always have hated the shift just as I have hated the aluminum bats. Called me a purist but I played high level baseball with wood bats

They shift as far as they can, but they have to have two players on each side of second base.

JJ would have walked the big lefty, if he knew he would homer.
JJ would not have struck that batter out if he knew the dropped third strike would be lost by the catcher.
What else do we have?
