Yes it will. Population decline will lead to the talent pool living somewhere else.

Putting politics aside, the governor obviously recognizes how many positives for the state come out of LSU having competitive programs. Job well done, sir.

So not exactly last at EVERYTHING

I'll take it!

Here’s the truth. When schools have successful athletic departments, attendance goes up, the university standards go up, and finances improve.

Bama proved this with Saban’s success. Tuscaloosa as a whole benefited

Here's the harsh reality: people don't care.

Everybody sees the struggles the state has. There's only two parishes in the state that have growth (Lafayette and St. Tammany), and there's a reason for that. But LSU sports is a massive priority in the state. I know it's not the best thing to say for me on this board, but the PR of putting it ahead of those issues is an issue of itself, but that's what's important to people in the state.

Please excuse the fact that I used ChatGPT

How Elite Athletics Raise University Standards at Bama
Pre-Saban (before 2007):
• Enrollment: ~23,800
• Applications: ~15,700
• ACT =30: 13%
• 4.0 GPA students: 17%
• Mostly a regional school, limited national pull

Post-Saban Era:
• Enrollment: ~38,500 (+62%)
• Applications: ~43,700 (~3x increase)
• ACT =30: 41%
• 4.0 GPA students: 34%

What Changed:
• 6 national championships ? massive national exposure
• Surge in out-of-state applicants (higher tuition revenue)
• Lower acceptance rate ? more selective admissions
• ~$2B in campus expansion, 80+ new buildings

Why It Works (Flutie Effect):
• TV exposure = free marketing
• More applicants = better students
• Strong athletics brand attracts non-local students
• Revenue loop: sports -> enrollment -> facilities -> academics

Bottom Line:
• Football didn’t create Alabama’s growth plan
• But it supercharged everything
• Result = bigger school, better students, stronger national reputation

You do realize its possible for both Landry and JBE to suck? Louisiana education strikes again.
Louisiana education is on the up. It can't be completely fixed over night, but we are scoring much better than a few years ago.

Most people know that success in athletics is a perfect marketing tool for universities. The big question is if LSU will make a push for it.

Saban was very vocal for academic prestige to increase at Alabama to the point where the enrollment almost doubled especially with a lot of foreign students I don't know what the model is at LSU, but it can be done if they do it right.

We have reinstituted testing for admissions we hired a big time research guy as chancellor

Do y’all not pay attention?

I’m not joking when I say Landry is killing it for LSU

I think you have 4 major sports coaches that recognize the value in discipline, process based results, and hard work. I think that will translate into the academic side as well.

and Glen West article says that Landry, and others were 'adversaries' of WW. Maybe he just doesn't understand what that word means.

I pay full attention to this stuff which is why I'm having this conversation. LSU has always had the perception that they put athletics ahead of academics. This isn't some unknown concept.

If they're smart, they will. Going to the holistic admissions approach was one of the goofiest moves I have seen LSU pull. Good for them for going back to the original admissions criteria.

Then why are you asking the question?

Landry has cleaned up the academic side while also cleaning up the mess on the athletic side.

Because in the ~160 years that LSU has existed, it's never happened. I honestly don't know what to expect from this new chancellor. He just got hired. He may be a bust for all we know.

He hasn't been Governor for two years; I think that's on the last few. The current suckage is a direct result of JBE. JL has a few more years to secure his legacy.
If some of what he promises comes to fruition, we should lower our suckage by a couple of States. At the end of Jindal's tenure, LA was rising, LSU not so much. JBE rode that for a while.
The current suckage could be directly traced back to the first Edwards. Despite similar resources on a smaller scale, TX blew by us and took what was in NOLA with it. Look at LA at the end of the 60's early 70's. That was the time when we should have been laying down the foundations for today.
