FBI has been known to participate in antitrust investigations.
I don’t think people realize how exposed the SEC is here. A court could find that their organizational structure facilitates suppression of free trade, considering the context + the fact they can severely penalize or exclude parties without arbitration or evidence.
Permanent injunction could enjoin them preventing them from using their own bylaws & force them to rewrite the conference bylaws.
This is a hyperbolic worst case scenario for the league, but just giving you an example of how their legal exposure here is almost boundless compared to LSU’s.

Especially because threatening to kick LSU out is essentially threatening a death blow when you factor in the current state of college football financials.
Courts have consistently ruled the last 5-6 years that NCAA sports are subject to anti-trust and restraint of trade law. A bunch of competitors in any industry getting together and colluding to essentially eliminate a competitor is classic anti-trust behavior.

This is why I’m so surprised that even some of our fans have fallen for the whole “voluntary membership” rigamarole.
I’ve said it so many times that I have lost count… rulemaking authority does not empower you to make illegal rules or to defy courts.

This move by Rousse and if in fact our attorneys did make an appearance in the federal court case indicates to me that the SEC was/is pushing for punishments that amount to more than a slap on the wrist, I.e serious fines and suspensions/lack of voting privileges/etc. That tracks with what all of the mouthpieces were saying yesterday.

1. Used to condescending to people like Rousse for only for money
2. Think it’s beneath their academic pedigree for him to be on equal footing with them (Doctorate From University of Chicago not withstanding)

This is all so delightful. Is there a video of Sankey on the stand sounding like a complete idiot? I would love to see that. Didn’t he say something to the effect of Lane made a joke that wasn’t funny and that’s why we’re kicking them out of the SEC?
Did Alabama get fines or suspensions for playing the kid from the G league in five or six games? I really don’t know, honest question. I know it certainly wasn’t as big of a deal as this has been made. In Texas doing basically the same thing and nobody say anything about that. I am absolutely loving every single bit of this walk back.

Ruffino hinted there’s a possibility the butthurt presidents (Tenn, OM, Bama) continue to push this and it gets ugly.
To be fair, that was before the SEC released the statement- I didn’t see his reaction to that.
