Tiger Band is always 325.

Forgive me if I sound like a resounding dumb arse for saying this but at least the way the band has looked and sounded, it feels like (at least to me...I could be wrong) that the band has gotten smaller and hasn't sounded as strong since moving from the Northwest corner of the NEZ to the middle of the NEZ.

when I was a kid, 'The First Four Notes' and the rest of Pre-Game all sounded much louder! I could be entirely wrong but I still can't shake the feeling like the band isn't as big or as powerful as it used to be.

I'm sorry if this has been asked a million times before, but did the band stop playing the 2nd and 3rd down cheers? I usually only make it to one or two games a year and I realized after the game last night that I didn't remember hearing either one. If so, when did this go away?

Most bands that visit TS are louder on the field. Why?

It could just be that Roy doesn't demand power from the band like Frank used to. I don't know for sure how Roy is, but I do know when I was in the band many years ago, Frank demanded power and volume.

This thread and the comments are right in line with what I've been saying for a few years now. Roy was a safe hire but that's it. He's a good guy and everything, but is really kind of a dud.

I get way to drunk to care about band. I also leave before halftime because I'm a rich season ticket holder who likes to tailgate more than watch game. And I'm a dumbass student who ruins the game for old rich people like myself. And I complain about everything like everyone on this site

I think that may be a good point. When she was speaking to the whole band, and "laying down the law", she was harsh (even as a 20something in the 80s), but in smaller groups or one on one, she was a bit more diplomatic.

I'll add that in 1986 my section did it's part to push her buttons, like intentionally playing the wrong note at the end of "April in Paris" knowing she was going to be directing right in front of us at practice. There's also the maxipadding of her car that one night with "Nose Sex Allowed" written on her car. Fortunately, she and Frank thought the colorguard did that.

Regarding shows, Russ Laib created some great shows that topped what Linda did. My favorites by Linda were the Rain theme from 1986 Ole Miss game and the Military Salute theme.

Those two are the ones I remember the most.

Some great shows that year.

Could not agree more. They've played the same show for at least 3 of the 4 halftimes this year. The only "twist" was brining out the alumni band last week.

I lived with nothing but tiger band geeks in the 90's and Wickes and Moorehouse would work the shite out of them including 3 or so hours on gameday mornings. The band was VERY good then, it's still serviceable but not where it needs to be the new director is a failure IMO.

As a Tiger Band Alum, TGBFTL is sounding better than ever. We would repeat shows, when needed. For any alum, the band won't ever be the same as when he or she was in it, but the current Tiger Band is pretty darn good.

Roy King, Dennis Llinas and the staff are doing an excellent job.
People are always going to complain about something.

Who mandates that the band can't be larger than 325 people? Since that includes both the Golden Girls and the colorguard, there are actually only about 270 or so musicians. I would think that makes ours one of the smaller bands in the SEC.

She isn't too bad still. She's one of those women that get better with age.

It's been that way a long time, probably at least two decades. I think it's one of the smallest in the SEC. This is kind of annoying, because everyone else says the other SEC bands are better because they are louder, but they are actually only louder because they have dozens more members (not because they "outplayed" LSU).

I don't expect the band to increase its number of members any time soon, because these days they allot money to pay the band a "stipend"--more funding would need to come from somewhere to pay even more band members.

Oddly, now that the band is paid, they actually play less music than back when they were an all-volunteer band. For some reason, these days the stadium staff constantly pipes in music over the speaker system during points of the game when the band used to play. Seems like, if anything, it should be the other way around (i.e., "more pay = more play"). Meanwhile, the visiting bands don't care what is being broadcast on the JumboTrons or over the loudspeakers--they play continuously all game long. The GBFTL's administrators really should stand up to the stadium staff so they can at least have a fighting chance of winning the battle of the bands.

I never really liked Linda when I was in band, but I sure as hell respected her and everything she did for Tiger Band. Not only should she have been made Director of Bands, she should have been next in line as Dean of the School of Music & Dramatic Arts. She certainly had the CV to support such a position. Instead, after giving 25 years to LSU, she was shite on.

My granddaughter was a Golden Girl from '07 - '10. She shares your opinion on Linda - much respect and talent.

I never paid much attention to the band unless she was there.
