I’ve seen three pitches from Henry called balls that were as good or better than the one Cabrera took on 3-0 called a strike. These fricking umps.

thats not how that works.
a slider looks a lot like a fastball out of the hands. Those hangers looked like a way inside fastball to these freshman who've seen very few legit sliders in their baseball career.
its the toughest breaking pitch to pick up out of the hand and when its legit like Elder's its really really fricking hard to recognize
