This would be a conspiracy if Woodward didn't do the exact same thing for his football hire at LSU.

I've heard local they had six boosters pony up $10m each after the Ole Miss game, and then fund raising the rest of the buy out was trivial

There's no conspiracy, A&M is just financially reckless

Exactly Woodward screwed us with Brian Kelly on a ridiculous contract…

Woodward should never be allowed to hire another football coach at least here, I hope he does at other schools when he leaves here which I hope happens

Woodward is not near as smart as you think.

Scott "Throw bags of money at em'" Woodward is no svengali that manipulates events - he gave Orgeron an extension and forced Pelini on Orgeron based on prior times at LSU...how did that work out?

Woodward actually thought Jimbo was going to kill it at ATM and did what he thought was right.

Lucky for us those weirdos can't get it together regardless of how much talent they buy.

So there is no conspiracy theory hoping that ATM would stay down, to help LSU, that would make Woodward the most despicable, back-stabbing low life ever. Which I don't think he is.

Fun read for the alternative universe crowd.

In the course of looking for a new HC at LSU, Woodward understood A&M leadership better than anyone as former AD, and and knew Texas A&M wasn't willing to let anyone steal Jimbo, the keystone in their 10 year guaranteed contract experiment. This would appear to make A&M look less powerful than another SEC divisional schools, namely LSU. So he makes a call to Jimmy Sexton knowing A&M would pay astronomically to keep Jimbo, who was already underperforming. At the same time, knowing the Jimbo hire was less than likely to turn out how A&M wanted, there was even more incentive to collude with Jimmy Sexton to get A&M to dig itself in a financial hole it couldn't get itself out of. Woodward never seriously wanted Jimbo at LSU, but he did want Texas A&M to be stuck with a HC we didn't want, for longer than we wanted, something that only helps LSU in recruiting and the SEC West race overall. So he calls Jimmy and helps him to get his client a massive and unearned extension by telling him he would go public with the notion LSU was seriously considering trying to hire Jimbo as their next HC, with no actual intention of doing so.

Honestly that was pretty good until logic takes over and you realize Scott Woodward isn’t that smart and he just fell into the same overpaying trap that will have LSU stuck with Brian Kelly for the next decade.

because that's the going rate for a college coach.
I mean he's not even top 5 highest paid in the country

Right with ya, panzer. Woody is way over rated in some eyes here. It goes right back to that ancient saying, money talks and BS ……….

Not sure if it was a conspiracy, but . . .

Jimmy Sexton has been manipulating schools and teams and cashing in since the 1980s. I saw somewhere where he represents 11 of the 14 head football coaches in the SEC.
He is easily able to play both sides and coerce bigger contracts for his coaching clients.

I think it's plausible that Woodward wanted to kick the tires on Fisher. But it was fishy that TexAgs was all over the Fisher "rumors" first and the Liucci guy was going around bragging that LSU was trying to steal him away from A&M. (Liucci once predicted Dave Aranda was going to be DC at A&M, remember?)

My question for the Rant is, what do you care what we pay for our coach? We've never had a problem firing and hiring people. (OK, we did once, when King Alexander objected after Les Miles beat the Aggies that night, a mistake that was swiftly corrected early the next season).

Remember, this is the same fanbase who thought him bringing a title was assured (In spite FSU imploding without Winston), that they were delusional enough to buy this in year one.

That wasn't just the fan base. The A&M chancellor, Dr. John Sharp, gave that plaque to Jimbo at an Aggie event before his first season.

The Aggies haven't won a national title since 1939, so they have no living clue what it looks or feels like, much less how to do it. The one thing they do think they know is how to spend all their oil money (Bear Bryant taught them that). It has made them delusional.

I have a couple of good friends who went to Aggieland and are both doctors. They both told me in 2017 that they were certain Fisher would win them "multiple national championships" over the next 10 years. Delusional.

Unlike Woodward and LSU?

The A&M AD said he let Jimbo go because no Championships.
Is there one in our future. Jimbo was recruiting pretty good, better than us.

The conjecture is deep…maybe, just maybe outbidding kids to come to your school doesn’t recruit the type of character it takes to win.
