Slick pro agents are writing these deals for kids and they much savy than school NIL reps in most cases.
What is also at play is the fees the "agents" can charge is unregulated. An agent can charge 10%, 15%, 20% of the deal as a fee. In the NFL an agent's fee is capped at 3% of the contract amount.
Agents are trying to leverage the payouts from the schools higher because in some cases their fees are going to be significantly higher than negotiating a pro contract. If an agent negotiates a $30M deal at a 3% fee he takes home $900k. If he negotiates a $8M deal at a 15% fee he takes home $1.2M

I hate the NIL!! It has ruined college football!!

Some folks here seem to think the players become indentured servants when they sign with a school .
I'm pretty sure we don't do that anymore.
If the player says i am not playing, he doesn't have to play. And whoever contracted with him on an NIL deal may or may not have a right to refuse to pay for his services. The player knows others will pay him that much or more.
But the school, who could not attract an elite player for that position b/c the incumbent starter was in place, is screwed. Their options in the portal will be very limited .
Tenner is in a very tough spot.

Good way to turn the fans and school against you! frick everything that college sports is becoming! A bunch of greedy fricking kids chasing money.

If I was Tenn, i'd let him walk... he's absolutely not worth that in the slightest. He is barely worth what he agreed to when he came there.
Is anyone really going to pay him $4mill on the open market with the product he has shown thus far?
Call his bluff

Sorry that this reality makes you so angry.
A whole bunch of us don't like it, either.
Maybe you should take a walk...or have a drink.

Hope they don’t get their feelings hurt when they are criticized when they stink it up

Hold the line Tennessee- don’t give in
Posted on 4/11/25 at 3:45 pm to Akit1
Problem is even if Tenn caved and gave him what he wants the chemistry with the team is shot. This has other repercussions that you won't openly see right away.

This is a total disaster. I'd be livid if I was Heupel. It's part of why Belichick hired Lombardi to be the GM at North Carolina to deal with all the NIL stuff since it's essentially contract negotiation so he can focus on football.
Even then, it's not enough to stop these guys from doing whatever the hell they want.

This will hurt him if/when he tries to go to the NFL Draft.
I expect him to be a late round or UDFA failure.

They were always "getting theirs"
They were too stupid to realize it. Those who arent superstars are the ones getting screwed now.
A few kids will make a million, most will get crumbs.

He is destined for spring football. If he’s lucky.
Which is why he’s trying to get every penny he can now.
