Per Cody Worsham

How about this stat?
LSU snaps with 25+ left on play clock

2017 (13 games): 52
2018 (7 games): 87

That 87? More than Kentucky, Mississippi State, Vanderbilt, Texas A&M, and Tennessee combined.

I'd be even more curious to see it 20+. Cant imagine 2017 going up by much but could see 2018 going up a decent bit. Seems like in our hurry up sometimes it gets down in the 21-24 second range at times when you consider an audible.

If my calculations are correct...I believe that is 18 more than 69

It is refreshing to see the O with so much time to decide what to do. Go up tempo. Slow down and huddle. We rarely have clock issues anymore.

Just curious, does anyone know the 2010 /2011 Oregon ducks total snaps with 25+ on play clock. Just curious, not trying to be a dick. Chip Kelly had that team flying.

Good question. I remember in 2015 when we were being sodomized by Arkansas, we actually moved the ball rather efficiently on the final drive before the half when we went to the 2-minute offense, and I remember asking myself why we didn't try to use tempo outside of the final drive before halftime.

Love Les, but for the life of me could not understand why our coaches were reluctant to do what was working outside of one drive a game, at least for the games where we struggled offensively.

Versus Georgia:

Final, unofficial numbers for #LSU tempo vs. UGA:

6-for-9 passing, 88 yards, 98.4 NFL passer rating
11 carries, 119 yards, 10.8 ypc

Total: 20 plays, 207 yards (10.4 yards per play), 9 1st downs (2/2 on 4th down)
Non-tempo: 61 plays, 268 yards (4.4 yards per play), 11 1st downs

1st quarter tempo stats for

By my tally, the Tigers went to tempo 20 times against the Bulldogs, picking up 207 yards on those plays – 88 in the air, 119 on the ground.

One of the more impressive aspects are the positive plays where we’ve quickly run another play for a big gain. Brossette and CEH have had some nice runs in those scenarios

This is good provided we are using good situational awareness. That stat could means that we are leaving nearly 3 minutes on the clock per game. So unless the tempo is producing longer drives and/or more points, that could come back to bite us.

Seems to be working so far, though.

It's a risk vs. reward scenario.

At over 5 ypp (thanks Ree!) differential you are getting more first downs. If you run with that and assume you are getting first downs when you would have not with no tempo, those first downs can easily eat up more than 3 min.

A first down is worth, at most, 1m 40s.

So the OP started this thread showing how much more we are running hurry up this year compared to last.
2018 ToP = 32:00 avg, #30
2017 ToP = 32:34 avg, #14

So it's not hurting us as much as one would think. And I don't want to get in the weeds too much, but one must consider the schedule/defenses we were up against this year compared to last.

As for another data point, Les' only year better than 2018 (or '17 for that matter) was 2014 at 33:08. Every other year was less than 32:00 (yes, including 2011).

So in short, with the exception of 2014, we're better with ToP [slightly] running the hurry up than with our past ball control offenses. Yes, defense is part of that- but we're better than the best defense we had, modern era ever (2011). I'm going to say that is due to first downs (21.7 per gm '18, 19.2 per gm '11).

Yep, if it get you 1st downs, it pays for itself, so to speak. Our tempo seems to be more of a dink and dunk sort of tempo so far. That also help with TOP vs big play offenses. Also helps avoid shootout type games that wear down defenses.

Of course our D helps that as well

and those rushing stats include Clydes big run correct?

Happy with the numbers regardless. and what makes it better is we switch up the tempo throughout the game so it's hard to constantly make adjustments.

Steve has done a great job considering our beat up O-Line, New QB and receivers, and new RB corps.

There were times we were snapping the ball and half the UGA defense wasn't even close to being set. I remember one of the decent runs, 3 of their linemen were still standing upright when the ball was snapped or had just gone to the ground. One would think they would adjust to that but they seemed completely confused by the tempo.
