Also, yes we did finish the year strong, but we can’t ignore the fact that we went 5-5 last season and didn’t really add any new pieces that will change our team drastically. Yes players will develop and get better, but does Mike Jones, Major Burns and true freshman change this team from 5-5 to double digit wins?

There's only one reason not to be excited about a lot of LSU sports, going forward: The NCAA using COVID as an excuse to ruin everything.

Totally unproven d coordinator, just lost left tackle off a o line who couldn’t run the ball against anyone last year. Bama, ole miss on the road. I am optimistic, I think the d line will be nasty. I see 2 losses.

Zero reason not to be excited. O has a full roster of his players who now have experience and hand-picked coordinators to coach them and implement his game plan. This is the year.

Not saying you shouldn't but decades of LSU fandom have pushed me long ago into the world of cautious optimism.

But I am still excited to get back into Tiger Stadium

The coaching staff got major upgrades. We have a DC who HAS called plays before and who was trusted by NFL coaches to coach their secondaries.

Our OC was picked by Brady for us and has put in work at many major colleges like Alabama.

Blake Baker a former DC coaching LBs to help Jones

DJ Mangas back to help Peetz with passing concepts.

Andre Carter an NFL vet transforming the DL.

And Brad Davis who was trusted by Sam Pittman to coach OL at Arkansas

That’s some major upgrades across the board. The team is very talented and was very talented last year. We lost very few impact players and keep a ton of vets. Just have to keep the culture intact and push off-field stuff aside and LSU can make as far as a run as they want. With so many veteran players, LSU will be a team of men playing against young boys.

I do think that Coach O was more diligent with his hires this time around.

We'll see how it plays out. The team is super talented. He's done an outstanding job recruiting. The team is built to make a run. Gonna depend on how good the new hires are.

Top 5 recruiting classes four years in a row is it? No former LSU coach can match that. I agree that O’s been more diligent in recent hires, now comes the waiting game. Hopefully it doesn’t take five or six games in the season for LSU’s defense play like a top SEC caliber defense.

Crazy considering LSU football Tiger fans have been caged for a year. Tigers will be let loose on the SEC.

a QB is only as good as his O-line and we have some big questions there, especially now with Rosenthal transferring out of an already not very deep area. We are an injury or two away from the Oline being a disaster area. Also I would say RB could be an area of concern, though there is some potential talent there, we just haven't seen it displayed on the field yet with any sort of consistency (same could be said of the WR's and TE's as well, other than Boutte no one has shown much). But yes there are reasons to be excited about the 2021 football season in at least on paper there is the potential that this could be a very good team.

That and im slightly concerned about our linebacker play and who will be the other 2 guys to step up next to Mike Jones.

Look for that cat Bugg Strong!! Also I feel like a change of scenery can work wonders for Clark. Dude looked like the best stud in 2019 just waiting in the wings, then 2020 happened with Ho Pelini. Dude physically is ready to dominate. I’m hoping our new DC and LB coach can help him realize his potential.

I image that Orgeron understands that this is the year to strike in the West. Alabama and A&M have loaded rosters but will play (talented) QBs with little to no experience. Arkansas likewise breaks in a new QB and has not yet rebuilt its roster. Auburn is in a coaching transition with a very flawed QB. Mississippi State does not have the talent to beat teams that do not employ Bo Pelini. Ole Miss is dangerous but still cannot play FBS defense.

9-3 must be the absolute floor under these circumstances.
