For defenses. I think with the emergence of Kaleb Jackson who is a true pass catching threat out of the backfield we won’t see much time with all three TE’s except maybe goal line/red zone but having the ability to rotate these TE’s out who are all three mismatches will be a luxury.

The 2019 team had the ability to have mismatches for defenses at multiple positions and I believe you will see that again this year with Nuss airing it out. Hoping they use Kaleb Jackson motioning out a lot and I believe you will see more 4 and 5 wide sets with a RB and TE out wide. Burrow was exceptional at utilizing the short target and dump off passes when it wasn’t there downfield and I fully expect having playmakers at TE and RB will allow Nuss to the same if he chooses. Hopefully we see some effective running which should allow for some dynamite play action. Exciting times ahead if Nuss can manage the game!

I know Nuss has a cannon for an arm. Does he have touch for the dump passes and short slants?

Jackson isn't Clyde as a WR. Williams fits that role more. Jackson is more in the Hill, Fournette, Guice mold. Defenses aren't going to respect him as a "WR".

I do think LSU will throw to the TEs more because (1) Nussmeier is more apt to spread the ball around than Daniels and (2) he's MUCH more willing to try to fit a ball into a tight window over the middle of the field than Daniels....which is were TEs usually operate.

However, there is an area of concern with the TE group. Who is going to block? For a team that is going to have to rely on a more traditional running game (as opposed to last year where they only had to run a few concepts due to the QB being the best "RB" on the team), they will need some degree of inline blocking from the TE spot. Green and Pimpton are more oversized WRs than TEs. Taylor is a really good player. But he's not known as a great blocker. Moss was a very good blocker on that 2019 team, and just kind of an average TE as a pass catcher. The loss of Markway is going to be felt there.

I think you'll see the TEs show up more in the redzone. Last year LSU had two WRs (Nabers and Thomas) who were great at winning contested "jump balls". Outside of Lacy (who is inconsistent), I don't know if they have that this year in the WR group. That's why a guy like Pimpton should factor in.

I think the question is whether Nuss will be willing to take the check down when he has too. Not at all attacking his ability, bc imo I think he’s one of the best QBs in the sec and has some of the best arm talent. However, earlier in his career he has shown signs of trying to force throws and push it downfield when it’s not there. I trust sloan and co to have him right though

Taylor is more than capable of blocking.. and he's 260+.. and Pimpton has added adequate weight..in the 240+ range and has gotten better blocking this is a reason Markway felt he should leave

When did this happen? Not saying it hasn’t, just that I haven’t heard it. Most people have mentioned it as the weakest part of his game.

Maybe. But Caleb is not Clyde. I don’t think he’s a huge mismatch against a LB like a smaller, quicker back could be. I could see Durham doing this more than Caleb. I’m not sure when it will be, but I think he winds up playing a decent amount eventually.

But I do agree that we have a ton of different kind of weapons that will allow Sloan to move guys around to create and exploit mismatches. Wouldn’t be surprised to see Green lineup in the slot on occasion. I also wouldn’t be surprised to see packages with all 3 TEs, especially in the red zone like you alluded to.

No doubt. And I think he can. It may take a while for him to fully gain BK’s trust, though. He’s played a lot for a 1st year starter, but he hasn’t been the starting QB since he was in high school 4 years ago. And now analysts will have had a whole offseason breaking down the Wisconsin film and every other game up until we play them. He’s gonna get things thrown at him we’ve never seen. That’s why that USC game is so friggin huge. Get by them, and we can really get it going by the time we hit the meat of the schedule.

I doubt we will see 3 TE very often but I am excited for all 3.

hopefully they all buy into blocking and can show versatility.

Having TE who can block and catch is such an advantage.

What are you basing this off of? From practice reports it seems like Kaleb is still a good bit behind Williams and Emery when it comes to catching the ball out of the backfield. Hunt said the other day that he isn’t dropping the ball but you can tell he still isn't really comfortable doing it.

I can almost guarantee you that Kaleb Jackson will not be split out wide very often.

Not saying he's not, but what do you base this on? He caught 6 passes total last year.

I guarantee it's the one clip of him catching a quick pass and trucking Weeks.

And this guy has spun that into Kaleb being our leading receiver this year.

Imagine if they use them like the Patriots used Gronk & Hernandez.

One in the slot & one with his hand in the dirt.

Mismatches in the passing game and run blocking. Or a 5 wide set with 2 TEs instead of a back.

Best part is they are jr, soph, fr... and all.will only continue to get better. And then oh yeah, we have lafleurs kid coming in next yr, and he's 6'6 235 at age 17. We might have the best te in the nation currently, we definitely will next yr when we have all 4.

Oline and te have been recruited at such solid levels.

Absolutely. That’s why I started a thread about creating a practically unstoppable package with those guys when we get inside the opponent’s 5-yard line.

Everyone on here immediately shite all over it because they have all the imagination and brain power of an oak tree.

I doubt we have all 4 of those guys next year. Mason Taylor is bein touted as a likely NFL draft pick.

In the unlikely event that he does come back for his senior year at least one of the other guys will decide to transfer out.

I think they all have the potential to be really good but you are putting a lot of stock in a true freshman and a true sophomore with 1 career reception for 1 yard.

I feel like it'll be similar to the Saints offenses with Brees where he would spread the ball around to so many different weapons. Gonna be fun to watch.
