If Woodward is in charge of this coaching hire we would be awaiting a press conference from frickin Dabo Swinney. So glad Woodward is GONE.

Brian Kelly was a horrible hire. Said it as soon as the announcement happened. I then foolishly convinced myself that it was a good hire because “he’s won everywhere he’s been, maybe he just needs the players and facilities.” As if Notre Dame is Western Michigan. Always trust your gut instinct.

Seems obvious. But let's be honest, he's not the only AD that feels this way by any stretch.

That's why LK was at a place like Ole Miss. He was persona non grata in admin circles for a long time, it was pretty well know. Any good administrator wants to remove as much risk as possible, and with all the antics and documented bad endings at other jobs I think it was totally fair for Woodward and many others to avoid the drama and volatility.

I guarantee you it's the one thing Verge is uneasy about, and he is likely hoping his close relationship with Sexton will help in this area.

The guy hired multiple national championship winning coaches and left the athletic department better than before he got there. I don't think atrocious is the right word here.

Better as in being on the hook for a $53 million dollar buyout?

As a reminder, Woddy installed Davis. Frick that guy.

This isn't remotely true. Kelly wanted to retain him because, if you remember, he was recruiting his arse off at the time.

Maybe so, but I'm still not dumb enough to think women's basketball is a compelling athletic event, nor should an AD get judged by how great a coach he hired for a dumbass sport. How'd Woody do for the LSU tiddlywinks team? Did he hire the GOAT coach?

At the time it wasnt. It turned out to be.

Have to give the guy credit for what he has done though.

I didn’t have BK on my radar and my initial reaction was meh. Eventually I talked myself into it being a very safe hire and he was the personality we needed post Ed.

BK was very much a paper tiger, preached being a disciplinarian but often on game day we looked ill prepared and undisciplined

I also hated the contract length for a guy on the end of BK’s career. Now I thought it would bite us on the back end after he got his title but he checked out much sooner than that

Woodward also brought in Jay Johnson(Goat), Kim Mulkey(Goat), and Jay Clark. BK did'nt work out. Basketball is up next

Just to be fair here:

Jay Johnson: LSU is THE baseball school. We're beyond what Duke and UNC are in basketball, what Alabama and Ohio State are in football. Our support (fanbase, resources) for baseball eclipses everyone else by a good bit, it's treated as a top-tier program here. Co-equal with football and men's basketball. Coaches know that, and want to come no matter the AD, as long as the support remains. And it will.

Mulkey- she's a Louisiana gal, from Hammond and played at La Tech. Her son played baseball here (no, really, he did ). It was simply a matter of making the call and paying market value, and letting her do her thing.

And Landry will be fired by the people in Louisiana come reelection on the massive crap show he has caused meddling in LSU affairs starting with the removal of Tate.
Republicans and Democrats alike hate him for a number of different reasons.

I’ll be the first to eat crow on woody. I believed the narrative that he was a smart, competent AD who was ousted due to messy politics. Turns out he was just fat, lazy, and overpaid like BK

Ditto for me. Glad he's gone.

It’s not that he was able to convince Jay to come here. It’s that he chose Jay in the first place.

Granted it happened under his watch and he deserves credit for it. I don't think people give Stephanie Rempe enough credit for that situation. She orchestrated and pretty much lead the way in that deal. Im not sure that deal gets done without her. Jay and her are pretty tight. She's graduated from Arizona and is now the AD at Nevada where Jay Coached for years prior to Arizona.
