It's neutral Miles. It isn't pro anything. Read it and find out.

good article. the guy hits the nail on the head with just about everything.

I like that fact that he points out that we all secretly (whether we know it or not) want these 'special' players to get 'special' treatment. Or else we would have some pretty boring ball on Saturdays. Its the cold hard truth.

so much win in this article, will never see The Advocate or The Picayune, that would require integrity.

sticky requested.

Good article...SI basically "exposed" the current state of major college football...a bunch of guys attending universities that aren't really "students" playing football on Saturdays...it's a giant fraud that we all participate in because we enjoy watching the game.

".. It actually starts out with a former OSU walk on telling the story about how he was told he made the team only to be cut by Miles 2 weeks later, then having the same thing happen the next year. "

.. sorry , medtiger .. this is NOT what the letter/article is about, as you imply ... really has nothing to do with that. Simply making a context for readers about who he is. Apparently player has no hard feelings for CLM , but you do .. Re-read.

Gosh can you imagine what would happen in the local media if this was lsu? Doucet and Harris would be hiding in the bushes trying to get some dirt to "top" Thayer Evans to get on espn

great article. the guy is not making excuses and not trying to sweep stuff under the rug. life is life. and there is no way a coach can stop a kid from smoking weed, drinking booze or accepted cash and small favors. there are 85 to 100 young men on the team and the coaches aren't baby sitters. the more i read, the more obvious it is to me this SI article is a hatchet job, pure and simple.

nope. you need to read it as it's about the reality of life in college, esp as a jock.

Saban basically did the same thing on Greg Hercules.

Hercules was a walkon safety. Each spring, he would work his way up the depth chart to 2nd team, but would always find himself 4th team when Fall drills began. Saban didn't want a preferred walkon beating out guys who he recruited.

Hercules ran at pro day after his senior year and was the fastest of the DBs that year.

He doesn't hold a grudge though. The guy is making bank as a Chemical Engineer now.

Seems like their biggest ( or one of their biggest errors) was going after this John Talley guy. ex-players have been coming out of the woodwork defending him almost laughing at how ludicrous it is to suggest this guy did anything against the rules.

Really? What players are "coming out of the woodwork" defending this guy? All I've seen is this email in defense of John Talley. Remember the guy who authored this email was cut twice and never made the team. Do you really think he would get paid the same as a star athlete by this Talley guy? Hell the guy says it himself in the email. Star players get different treatment.

What the hell does Saban have to do with this? ALL coaches cut players.

And I don't know if you realize it or not, but it takes more than just speed to be a good DB.

This guy gets it

For the record, if youre a college student athlete. Youre broke. Somebody offers you free money just because you have been playing well recently. Who would say no? Seriously if you think you would say no speak up so i can call you a liar and an idiot

Great article. As more info about the SI series is coming out, its obvious this is a stunningly reckless piece of 'journalism'--nothing more than a smear job. If the publishers of the magazine had a pair they would issue an apology to Miles, Gundy and OSU and retract the entire series.
