re: TAF will be requesting to sell some of the student section...

Someone suggested yesterday that I believe GA does a "new alumni" program. Depending on when you graduated, they discount tickets to build the alumni base through access to the student section. The longer from graduation, the higher the price. This is the plan used to address the lack of involvement from recent grads.
Nationwide this is where the real complacency and lack of support are coming from. It is also an effect of soo many diverse groups are able to go to college now, but the average student doesn't have access to student tickets. This builds the alumni base from underserved groups who may not have had access before, but are not long removed from the college experience.

...and they should.
The student section is obviously too large. And, you have people on the waiting list to buy tickets.
This should be common sense.

No, it did not.

So it's okay for people with 50 yard line tickets to stay home and not come to the games, but this is not okay for a student?

Wrong to single out the students when there is a global tiger stadium attendance issue.
I am a FORMER student.

Huh? There is a waiting line for season tickets a mile long. Why would anyone, including students, object to these seats being turned over to the general public?

I do like that the picture was taken before the band sat down to exaggerate the emptyness though

Section 236 is the student section? Guess I always got to the stadium early.

I agree to sell it, but for the people that buy those seats, I suggest hearing protection.

Isnt that the law school and med school student area? That has always been an area not full, esp closer to finals.

I'm sure that the speakers will still be loud, but don't forget that for this year only (allegedly) the North Endzone scoreboard is having to service the entire stadium. Next year we should have a second jumbotron and second set of speakers, so the two can service only half of the stadium. I would think that the volume will be turned down some next year.

I have never seen that area empty like that before for a big game. To say it's always not full is just inaccurate.

They need to make it an alumni section. That would be awesome.

Are posters this fricking stupid? Literally 100+ new threads on the same topic over the past 4 days.

Which is what makes this worse, IMHO. I'll admit, I'm late to the party on this. I'm a long time season ticket holder and, unless I have my son with me and it's foul weather, I stay until the end of every game, but I've never really been that upset about a few no-shows. I'm of the opinion that if you spent the money on the tickets, it's your business what you do with them. But there are certain areas that are glaringly bad. One is the area in he photo, sections 235-236. I never thought that was part of the student section. The other is the East side between the 30s, particularly the bottom rows of the East Upper.
I ask again, is there a good reason to not do SRO tickets? They do it for baseball, although I know that it is a much smaller scale. From a tech standpoint, it could be done.

The question is how many people will fight the hassle of getting to the stadium for SRO tickets.

No, it didn't. The rest around it filled in, but that particularly little section remained mostly empty.
Inventing facts:
With the new addition, there will be SRO tickets.

the students tend to pack into the lower rows of the student section much tighter than other parts of the stadium, frequently in the aisles and standing sideways to fit. because of them packing in so tightly lower down the top ends up being empty. its not that the tickets aren't being used, but since the student section is general admission they are being used in different areas. I would imagine if you let the same number of students in and also sold those seats to non-students there would probably be a fire code issue for not having enough room for each person in attendance.
eta: and for those suggesting that they should be sold as season tickets, think about how big of an empty section there would be if all of the "season ticket" holders in attendance were to sit as general admission, i would bet the entire east upper would be empty based on how the east lower looked on saturday.. there were entire rows of 10-15 seats empty in the second quarter.
