I laughed out loud during the broadcast when they showed the student section and the Male LSU student was obviously doing well with the attractive young lady sitting by him, and they compared it to the jort loser at UF that Jessie Palmer made fun of.

That was 53 years ago. We had already lost three games (Colorado, OM, and Bama) when we played ND. Our season was largely a disappointment by then. But TS would not disappoint. To be fair, TS still has its moments of glory. I realize the OP is focusing on the student section and not the crowd in a broader sense but some of the factors affect both. IMO, the single biggest factor is TV.

It’s become glaringly obvious that a majority of our fanbase are front running, spoiled pussies. People here won’t want to hear it, but it’s the truth. Same shite with the saints. LSU and the saints claim to have the best fans in football, but the truth is, if the teams aren’t undefeated, a large part of our base becomes disinterested.

Field a team that is entertaining to watch and don’t have 2:30 games left in September. Students still love coming to games and will be loud if the game is entertaining. It might not be like in was in 2003, but it’s still pretty good.

One of the worst arguments is people don’t go to games or stay all game is because the team isn’t entertaining.

Whenever Miles was here you heard that a lot at the End of his tenure.
They would run the ball about 75% of the time.

Now we throw it about 75% of the time, but it’s the same issue.

The truth is we could be undefeated and win every game by 4 touchdowns, and you would have the same issue.

We won too many games and people have “been there and done that”.

Yep. It has nothing to do with how the team plays or looks. People don’t care anymore period. It’s the simple

I never wore a coat after pledge semester lol

But I sure did wear one to every single game in the fall of '99.

Nah, back in the day, LSU football was the only entertainment in the state.
Homes weren't air conditioned, TV only picked up one game in the SEC, and the traffic problem was just part of the game.

Now stadiums are bigger, more fans, roads are still the same, and traffic has become. intolerable.
Back then, I would drive from North Louisiana, Franklin Parish, just to watch LSU's Freshman team play Ole Miss freshmen when Archie Manning was a freshman. (No one new about "Archie Who" then.)

Its more fun for us Old Farts to sit in an Air Conditioned Den, in a Recliner, in front a 65" TV, and watch the action. When the game is over, I can tune in the next game.

That's not necessarily true. LSU is not the only school dealing with this, but it does piss me off when I watch a USCe vs. A&M game from a couple of years back where Williams-Brice stadium was packed and going crazy and neither team was highly ranked at the time.

At its best, no other college stadium can touch Death Valley, but we rarely see that environment anymore. I'm still waiting to see if we can figure out how to create a decent light show after LSU spent some serious coin on it. What I saw at the Nicholls State game was embarrassingly bad.

There were a handful of TS games on TV in that era:
LSU-Auburn '69
LSU-Ole Miss '70
LSU-ND '71

The '71 ND game has the legendary LSU broadcaster John Ferguson on the call. The '71 Bama game was also on TV but I couldn't find it on YT.

FTR, one of the appeals to attending games on TV in that era was the hope of 'getting on TV.' I don't think this is a factor at all now.

Let’s not forget that people go nuts these days without full access to their phones. Just adds to your point about comfort and commodities.

Gotta adjust with the times unfortunately, people are absolutely glued to their technology. Instead of some of the improvements, should have spent a ton on WiFi. The lights were an absolute joke, the scoreboard was alright.. but of course covered in Ads.

It was really hot Saturday. Really fricking hot.

The student section was full at kickoff. Were you there?

Chicken needs to make a rule that if you are going to bitch about attendance you need to verify you were at the game by posting a picture of your ticket. Nearly every single one of these threads is started by hypocrites sitting on their couch.

The light show being after the 3rd quarter will keep people in their seats.

This isn’t an LSU only issue. This happens across CFB. You know as well as I do that if it’s a big time game and it’s tight late into the fourth, that stadium is jam packed. Don’t believe me? Go ask anyone that was there for 22 Bama.

Who gives a shite if people leave early for a game vs LA Tech. People don’t leave early for most SEC games. I was at Burrow’s final game in TS which was a 50-7 beat down and you would have thought it was the 7OT game with how full it remained until the clock hit 0:00

The quality of team and opponent plays a role here. If we’re witnessing one of those legit all time LSU teams, fans don’t leave early as much.
